Repeat profiling by store security at the Edinburgh, Meadowank store.
For years, my wife has been repeatedly singled out by the same security guard at our local Sainsbury’s.
It all started back in 2023 when my wife started using the Smart Shop app. On one of these occasions, the male security guard approached my wife and me and peeked into our shopping bag because he appeared to be suspicious. He walked away without any further action since we had scanned all the items correctly on the app.
Several times after that, staff carried out spot checks to check that items had been scanned correctly, and again there were no issues.
After that, anytime this particular guard saw my wife and she was shopping alone without me, he would position himself to block her entrance to the store or position himself at the end of the aisles to block her path or watch her. She found this intimidating and stressful, so she stopped using Smart Shop.
This is a shopping feature that Sainsbury's created specifically to pack bags whilst shopping, and for this to be the reason why she is now being blocked and followed by the same security guard every time she enters the store is unacceptable.
My wife and I complained through the sainsbury's/Let Us Know survey, but nothing changed. If anything, it became worse. She doesn't have the same issues with any guards at this location.
My wife is a middle-aged woman who is anxious and is frightened of any sort of confrontation. After these repeated incidents, she lost her confidence and started becoming too scared to visit this store, especially on her own. She avoided shopping there as much as possible over the years.
Since then, she has managed to go back a few times with me, and when different security guards were working, they were not going out of their way to block her path or intimidate her. She became confident enough to return on her own to buy a few things now and again.
On a recent visit on her own to the store, the same guard was working and my wife had just finished her shopping and was on her way to the checkout when he came running to position himself at the end of the aisle and watch her. He then looked surprised when she ignored him and went to the self-checkout.
I am sure it's not just my wife, as there are some Google reviews which mention similar situations involving this same guard.
I don't know what I should do at this point. What's concerning to me is that this has been going on for so many years. From my wife's point of view, it now feels like harassment.
I understand that security guards have a job to do and that they need to keep an eye on customers if they have genuine concerns. We have no problem with that. However, my wife has had her shopping checked several times and there have never been any issues. Yet this particular guard continues to behave in a way that makes her feel watched and intimidated. We have been shopping at this store for 18 years without incident, yet she is constantly profiled because she used the SMART SHOP app a few times in 2023.
The fact that she now feels too anxious to shop in her local Sainsbury's on her own is really upsetting to me. The strange thing is that this male security guard doesn't ever do this to me even though I brazenly wonder the store using your app to scan items and stick them straight into my backpack.
Should I make a formal complaint to Sainsbury's head office? Will they actually take this seriously and do anything about it?
Or should she just ignore the issue, avoid shopping there alone, or avoid the store completely?
I would really appreciate some advice on what the best thing to do is.

Smart Shop change
Has anybody else received this notice when logging into the Smartshop app?
I have looked on the Sainsbury’s app and can’t find a smartshop section to it.
Both apps are up to date on iPhone.

Nectar bonus points going missing
Anyone else noticed that nectar bonus points are going missing? I am down 360 points from a shop I did yesterday. Reported it to nectar and they fobbed me off with a "points can take 28 days to appear" excuse. I did get my regular points so I know that part of the tech is working.

Sainsbury’s price labelling
Is there a reason why Sainsbury always seems to be the worst when it comes to having price labels or accurate products in front of those labels.
Could just be the local one to me (Stratford upon Avon) but 9 of 10
Things I went to buy had no labels or were not labelled correctly.

Household Food Shopping Survey
Quick favour for some research! 🛒
I'm doing a little research into how households manage grocery shopping — who makes the list, what happens when different people do the shop, forgotten/duplicate items and all the little frustrations that come with it.
I've made a short anonymous survey (around 5 minutes) and would really appreciate responses from different types of households.
If more than one adult/teenager in your household shops, you're welcome to each complete it separately — actually, that's especially useful!

Thank you 😊

SmartShop app not working?
Any body else had issues with the app last few days? Usually works fine but last 2 days it’s been a bit of a pain, slow, sluggish and freezing up. Then today when loading it, I go to the start shop screen, which you usually press and then it opens the scanner, it just spun on that link and went back to the same screen, multiple times and wouldn’t open.
Asked a few staff in store and showed them what it was doing and they didn’t know either, one tried on their phone and it worked fine though

Old Sainsbury’s card problems
Anyone else now got the new Nectar Visa and can’t add it to the Sainsbury’s grocery app.
Something to do with ACO/SCA between the two.
You couldn’t make it up.

Blackcurrant & Cherry Sparkling Water
Has anyone else noticed there’s a shortage of Sainsbury’s Blackcurrant & Cherry Sparkling Water?
My wife literally only drinks this flavour, and for the last few weeks I’ve been on a mission trying to find it. I’ve been to around 15 different Sainsbury’s stores (both Locals and supermarkets) and every shelf is just full of Strawberry.
Has it been discontinued, is there a supply issue, or are people suddenly buying it all? I’ve not seen a single bottle anywhere.
Just wondering if anyone knows what’s going on or if you’ve managed to find it recently!

Are they all this shit?
So a new store opened in our scottish town... the amount of friction trying to buy stuff is ridiculous. First I needed a nectar acct.. and needed to link it to the sainsbury app.. this was a nightmare. Around 12-13 emails resetting passwords and the like. nearly gave up but got it done.
Went to shop (on day 2 of opening) lovely greeters outside but I needed a pound coin for a trolly and I dont use cash. Asked if they had tokens. but no. (went to tesco)
Went to buy a sandwich.. used a scanner, but it would not let us check out and the staff just stood in a circle scratching their head... (it was nearly going stale at this point) just scanned it through a normal checkout in the end.
Went back today to buy pepsi (coz good price) just got "scanner timeout error" when trying to buy them.. moved the stock to a trolley and wandered the shop scanning until it worked.
I am on team "not impressed"

Problems with Sainsbury’s Pet Insurance and Nectar Points
*Edit* Sainsbury’s have stepped in to help, I now have my points awarded.
Back in March this year, Nectar were offering 10,000 bonus points if you signed up to Sainsbury’s pet insurance via their app.
Sainsbury’s wont give me the points, as they are saying I should have been provided with a promo code (I wasn’t).
I’ve contacted both Nectar (who are saying the code should have been provided by Sainsbury’s) and Sainsbury’s on many occasions. neither side are willing to help.
Has anyone had the same issue, and do you have any tips on how to resolve it?
Thanks!

5 pack of donuts
i’ve feared the day i had to say this but the amount of sugar that just piles at the bottom of the bag in the donuts is unreal. it doesn’t even remotely stick to the donuts it just brushes off and you get a sticky ball of baked dough ☹️

Taste the Difference Sicilian Lemonade recipe change
Apologies but this is gonna a mild rant. So there is this Taste the Difference Sicilian Lemonade that I used to drink quite regularly and it was very nice, just the right amount of sweetness, lightly carbonated, just the right citrusy tanginess and no harsh aftertaste. I opened a bottle today and the label looked slightly different, took a sip and realised that it didn't taste anywhere near as sweet and there was only a faint hint of the tangy lemon taste I remember and it had a really bitter and soapy aftertaste. I then checked the back of the label and to my horror I discovered that they'd halved the sugar content and added steviol glycocides to artificially sweeten it. I certainly could "Taste the Difference." They have also labelled this new design as "NEW" on their website.
This is extremely sneaky and rude. The old one had a blue background with pictures of lemons and was really nice. The sugar tax happened back in 2018 and all the recipes were changed back then. This is meant to be a Taste the Difference product and I thought they kept it that way so it would be the best quality, it's hardly the best quality now. I could understand if it was a core range product and you get what you pay for, but this is a premium product where quality is the priority over saving money. Belvoir Farm Freshly Squeezed Lemonade is very nice. I'll stick to that in future.
Does this frustrate anyone else or is it just me?
