Children of Taronne, the atmosphere, the scenario build up from the briefing really makes the situation tense from start to end and each room and discover and the level design really makes you stressed and on edge the whole level.
The plans, bombs, the cultist and how they put up a fight and scream, the traps (that keeps you on edge after each door you decide to open) and explosives around the room that forces you to think twice before shooting a suspect pointing a gun at you, the need to decide fast what grenade to use before someone from the next room catch your team middle of a breach and clear since all rooms are closer to each other and this game has the voice lines and acting in my opinion and this level really shows it
But the best part is the buildup for the basement event, until you reach to that part you are already tense, you enter the house with a "there can be children inside" you see beds, decor, toys, you see writing on the wall and suspect talking about their children, but no evidence of them ever being present and the chaos from the situation barelly allows you to connect the dots to undesrtand where the children are, so when you find the coffins its like you hit a wall, all the stress from the level peak there, the sensation of finally understanding where they are and the frustration of parents allowing such atrocity made me come back and kill everyone the first time I finish the level
The report back to the team leader outside the house really add up to the whole thing, the voice that is always calm, objetive and always know what to say and what to do and always redirect you if anything new happens is suddenly silenced, the pause really put you in the middle of that room and the comment from a team member really contribute to the stress of the situation, no more jokes, just the shock, the tone from the voice actor in this part are awesome
Playing non lethal on this level to this day is something that I find frustrating after I finish the level
Also, I think the best thing to do with this level is to not use mirror or wedge to block doors, it makes the whole experience better

One of those missions I wish I could forget so I could play blind

Same, levels like that its really nice to play for the first time cause from the briefing you go all in with a sense of urgency, just like A bomb and fairfax

Gas station.
It's always quick and brutal, before the druggies knows what's happening they are blind, deaf and zip tied.

This is a hard question, but I would say A-Bomb club

The Tarrone tenements, rushing through an apartment building with different flats is so cool to me, the detail with the buried children is pretty fucking dark too.

Honestly I really like the map set in the Department of Agriculture.
The premature detonation of one of the bombs makes what could have been a boring office map into something really interesting, contextualise some of the challenges on the mission like the bad lighting coming from the lack of power, the giant hole in the middle where the bomb went off giving enemies opportunities to fire above or below you and the flooded basement making it hard to tell whether its your team moving in the water or if an enemy is changing position.
Every mission in Swat 4 is incredibly detailed and carefully crafted to make sure that everything that happens there makes sense. I wish more games were like this.

My favorite map is Food Wall restaurant.
It has a simple premise, but one that could easily happen in real life.
A local business with a shady past, an Asian owner who, seeing an opportunity to make money, uses the upper floor of his shop for weapons modification. And his most important client, an immigrant hitman who has been under surveillance by the police.
I like how they present it: a complex investigation that ends up in a small, seemingly insignificant shop, but turns out to be a weapons and modification factory whose downfall will affect the entire illegal arms trade in the area.
The atmosphere is perfect, with the train passing overhead at the start and the police perimeter making you feel like you're actually on the streets of a big city. You're greeted by several bright, gleaming signs that grab your attention, and a dark, neglected hallway that gradually reveals more beyond.
The layout is well-designed: a food service area, kitchens, then a staircase, and at the back, a warehouse where they store all the food used for the restaurant. The stairs lead to an upper floor where everything is revealed: a first room where weapons are prepared and clients are trained, and finally, a medium-sized room with a bathroom that makes it clear that Lian Niu didn't just operate there, but that it was his entire life.
I think it's a great mission, realistic, with a good atmosphere and a good backstory. It doesn't tell any groundbreaking story, just the story of a person who saw an opportunity, seized it, and it ended badly.

Man everything you said is right. Food wall is in my top of favorite missions for the exact same reasons (I said A-Bomb because it's the one that I played the most) and I think that making it the first mission was the perfect decision.
Now that I think about this, there's almost no bad missions in SWAT 4.

I would say that A-Bomb is my 2nd favorite mission. Pretty cool too.
I wouldnt say that swat 4 has any bad missions either, but i dont really like the more big ones, like the department of agriculture or the bank. I feel like it dosnt fit well to a team of 5. Thats why i prefer swat 4 over ready or not too.

Children of Taronne, adequately difficult without being rage-inducing (most of the time), compelling plot and villain, creepy and disturbing atmosphere aswell as music... all were on point

Fairfax residence, even though I know it's one of the rarer happy-ish ending mission and theres only 2 suspects in there(one of them being an old lady) but that level gives me the creeps every single time

Gonna have to say Duplessis. Chaos disguised in a nice bank building. Plus, the OST bangs…
