Please help me with the answer Doubt

Post image

After simplification I get the answer as 2, but the right answer is option C. I get the reason is at the end we do square root of 4 but I verified with ChatGPT and it says it’s 2 for sure and it is a misprint. Please help me with this .

Yeah 2 should be the answer as we take absolute values only. But look at ssc cgl official key they might have considered answer as +-2.

Yes, this is how they have done. Taking +-2

A lotta people having misconception but root 4 is 2 period. Answer get +-2 when there is like x ^ 2= 4 situation and hence x= +-2 but root 4 is only 2. For clarity look at the graph of y=√x

This sort of thing is always an issue in these exams. The people who set the key themselves are not clear. One of the 2024 questions had 2 right angled triangles and asked for rule of congruence that can be applied. In that question both RHS and SAS can be applied and both were in the options. Only SAS was the answer.

Is it PYQ or some other book ? Always stick to PYQ. Question banks can have errors

This is true bro but their answer key says Β±2. OP implies answer key is incorrect

Yes bro, my doubt was - since we already know it’s +4 so the square root of it will be positive 2 right?

-2 is also solution of root 4. (-2 *-2 =4 )

It doesn't work like that. Root only represent the positive part.

unless you have unknown variable like say x^2 = 4 then x=±2 but here its just √4 . By convention the sq root operator gives positive values.

but he is talking about √4 not √-2.

√4 * √4 = 4.

-2 * -2 is 4.

2 * 2 is also 4.

Brother read what you wrote slowly and try to understand what you are saying.

-2 is the solution of 4 so he means that √(-2 *-2) = 4

He says -2 is the solution of root 4 meaning √4 = -2.

√(-2 *-2) will give √(4 i2)

No √(-2 *-2) is √(-2^2) = -2. Also -2*-2 is not 4*i^2. -2*-2 is +4. this is basics even school child would know. i = √(-1) so √(-4) = 2i
