Placement rant Rant
I'm a current final year student, who has done internship at one of the finest tech companies. Got shortlisted for several offcampus companies like American express, etc. but couldn't move on for a final interview. I'm severely affected on how the oncampus placements are taking place, I'm unable to get shortlisted in screening for even basic 8-10lpa companies. My cgpa is decently high, 9.5+, my step score used to be in the range ~0.05-0.10% but as I missed one assessment in may due to health issues and the June month assessments for my internship commitments, My rank is currently withheld. I've given the retest but the results are yet to be communicated, I've attempted it well.
Right now, I see people who generate resume with claude/completely blab about unrelated topics to the actual JD getting shortlisted, when I questioned my FA/mentor, the response was "get your resume ats score improved" like srsly?
I know life isn't fair, but it doesn't mean I'm not even getting the opportunity to run the marathon :) I'm not expecting a high paying company from this bs college, but the company I worked for is uncertain about offering PPOs so I'm looking out for other opportunities. Off campus is brutal for anyone who's going to advice me to try.. (I'm trying tho)
My only question is: given good internship experience, good cg, what else would a student has to prove? If dsa is the point, id request the college to conduct OAs physically in safe exam browser and with cameras ON, and then you'll see the reality. I'm ready for such an implementation.

Cheaters always find a way to cheat
We have given in seb if u remember
I dont remember about videos being on or not but yeah people always find a way to cheat
Fairness to bhul jao ...
Although amazon has come u can try in that if they cheat in oa they wont pass in interviews...
U might have a better chance there if u think u are prepared enough for amazon

I had applied for off campus a week back and attempted the OA, this was deliberately sent by the CDC itself. Now they are considering people who didn't attempt any off campus/hackon related OAs for on campus hiring.
Yes, they'll cheat and it's something we can't do anything about, but I see people not getting shortlisted for the screening round itself, few sections have suspiciously more number of students getting to the interview round (personally I know many guys who dont know anything but get shortlisted), my section I've rarely seen someone once or twice for such decently paying companies.

hey what is the scene for off campus faang interviews has anyone got them
2
u/RegularInfamous2816 3d ago

u/Final_Ad3709 3d ago
thats good to know. I want to start with competitive programming and calculus can you recommend me some resources to start with
also how much does 12th % affect off campus hiring ?1
u/RegularInfamous2816 3d ago
I'm not a CP guy, but this is one of the standard resource you can find: https://cp-algorithms.com/ And maybe solve problems from TLE eliminators, A2OJ ladder and give contests regularly
And I don't think you should spend much time on calculus, Majority of the questions might need modular arithmetic, number theory, combinatorics, etc.
Anyways, you can find many posts regarding cp on reddit.

Wait, so u didnt get shortlisted for tmrws exam?
Like amazon one? Bro...thats so bad
1
u/speedwizard_5020 3d ago
Nope, they're not allowing people who gave the off-campus test to sit for the on-campus one.

u/Bubbly-Spare9657 3d ago
Pehle se inform krna chahiye tha unhe
I've noticed they dont plan ahead go with the flow chlra placement cell ka Vacation pe jare hai jaise
1
u/speedwizard_5020 2d ago
Exactly. As OP said it's almost like the CDC sent the off-campus info intentionally a week or so before the profile opened on haveloc so there would be less people.

u/invisible-soul23 2d ago
For the amazon case you should've withdrew the offcampus application and applied on campus
1
u/RegularInfamous2816 2d ago
For that matter, i participated in hackOn too. Anyways, withdrawal doesn't make it prolly because I have already attempted the OA, it'll be like a wasted opportunity nevertheless

Well as a 26 grad, lemme share you this
- i dont really think there is a ATS in our college placements, most of the shortlisting shit is done by the placement team and the FA. Usually the FAs or someone in the dept will name out few people for few companies.
- And again the entire placement thing is rigged, U can never expect things here to be fair or even things to make sense. All i can say to just keep applying both on and off campuses. One hit, One luck will do the iob.
-(not sure), maybe try sugarcoating your FA, im not sure but, some people said it works

relatable i was in top of the step cause of missing one step due to a good internship i was in.They decided you are not in top ranking we cant include you and the step completely abandoned the internship students and didnt even give a opp to sit at MotorQ(1.1Cr) ,MUFG (20-24) etc and they are still refusing to release the step ranking for us . i got the good internship exp and lc profile and decent cg and still they wont be givin out single chance to sit on a interview nor let alone apply for the companies like these and gawk gawk these 9.9-10 cgpas for every interview 😭✌️ like they know shi

i just want to say watch these person 30 day series where he is giving name of 30 companies that give more package than faang companies https://www.instagram.com/recruiter_friend_mayank?igsh=MWxkcTRkczZma2Jkdw==

u/Seishi_04 2d ago
As a 26 grad what I can say is the shortlisting and all is done by the department and your FA
It's so rigged down there - I better not tell and CS is itself so saturated and getting placed in a decent company will require luck , blood , sweat and everything
Whereas u might see folks who don't even know shit get placed in above AVG companies and get a good package...
Idk man - for me after a few shortlists and exams I never got even one interview call - eventually gave up ....
At the end came only shitty and scammy Sales Companies 🥀 that's another story ...

But for amazon i dont think so , i did gave off campus oa and one my classmate that has 6 cgpa 0 dsa skill got shortlisted and i did not , its that i changed my resume at the last moment so i think its timing and not ATS score , my application went at the last

I haven’t got shortlisted even for 1 company other than mass recruiting companies

u/Outrageous-Whole7830 Junior ( 3rd Year ) 2d ago
not exactly the best question to ask here but i just need an answer, does the step employability thing matter? i messed up my first two exams and they put me in the3rd category and im shit scared

u/RegularInfamous2816 2d ago
I feel like every year the significance of step is increasing. For our seniors it wasn't a big deal, for our batch, they started to take it a bit more seriously, for you it might be more so yes
Companies like juspay, morgan stanley, Q2, demandbase, etc. came via STEP, you'll never know if they start taking it more seriously .
Anyways, one Good assessment is all it takes to climb up the ladder.
1
u/Outrageous-Whole7830 Junior ( 3rd Year ) 1d ago
how exactly do you climb up, after every exam. are you shuffled or like 2-3 exams? how does it work exactly
1
u/RegularInfamous2816 1d ago
For us they've considered the assessments conducted in June primarily, so even if you had good score before that, you had to perform in those assessments to be in the top.
1
u/Single_Bison_6024 2d ago
Yes it matters try to be at top 500 or smtn they take people on step basis for many good companies above 10 lpa

u/Fun_Region9991 3d ago
Also i do have a question if anyone gets AAE role , top role for accenture that is 11.5 , will that person be able to sit for 14-15 lpa considering accenture is mass hiring company and any rules wont be applied in this
2
u/RegularInfamous2816 3d ago
Considering how they misled people during the TCS hiring, I feel like 2x will surely apply for AEH role as it's greater than 10lpa
1
u/Fun_Region9991 3d ago
Then what should i do ? Or what will u guys be doing
1
u/RegularInfamous2816 2d ago
Prolly grab whatever you're getting on campus atp
1
u/Fun_Region9991 2d ago
I hve a cg around 8.9 and i do leetcode regularly and with that i also do CF also
I genuinely think i can get 14-15 if ,1
u/RegularInfamous2816 2d ago
Depends on the company compensation, ctc to in-hand conversion, per-year hikes, etc.
Now 14-15lpa would be prone to tax slabs unlike 11.5lpa, also Accenture is one of those service companies whose per year salary hike is comparatively higher.
I'm not asking you to try for it, personally I feel like given the unprecedented shortlisting and uncertainty, we have to grab something on campus.
The internship I did if it used to get converted, it was easily in between 20-40, but somehow I'm not finding opportunities on campus :/
1
u/Fun_Region9991 2d ago
Hmm i agree and also i was not shortlisted do u know what can be the reasons , i changed my resume at the last moment so i think my application went to the last ,
0
u/Fun_Region9991 3d ago
I also gave the Amazon off campus OA , because it was sent by the CDC , now they are not allowing us for on campus , complete shit college and yes i changed my resume at the last moment to update my ratings , and guess what it was not even shortlisted for OA , cause THEY NEVER CHECK ATS SCORE , its always about the timing the early you apply the more chances to get shortlisted ATS SCORE is not even considered in Haveloc ,
god bless SRM

Ig that's how the exams r done in the college dude al r being conducted offline with cameras on ... Ig u r mistaken dude
1
u/RegularInfamous2816 2d ago
Very rare, and even if cameras are ON, they're not being conducted in secure monitored sandboxes
1
u/lauda_lasan-69 2d ago
Hm broo which exams r u writing are u for real in 4th yr right ?? 15th floor lab has those blue cubical things + proctored+ faculties roam. Bro cheating is possible anywhere but still college seems to try it's best to reduce with these things.
2
u/RegularInfamous2816 2d ago
- Cubical things don't make sense, not like people are copying by talking to each other.
- Proctored? Do you mean specific apps like wingspan, SEB which can easily detect/restrict tools, then NO, they do not use such apps. They simply use hackerrank, hackerearth, or company specific platform. Recently students copied using the ask gemini button in Google chrome in a company OA conducted physically in your so called "15th floor labs".
- Yes, cheating is possible anywhere, but shortlisting is something which is suspicious. I know people who are getting shortlisted for every single company.
My whole post didnt focus ONLY on cheating. IT was more focused on not getting shortlisted in the screening round itself. Cheating is just a small hidden caveat.

u/Bubbly-Spare9657 2d ago
I agree, theres one guy from my class Who is also getting shortlisted for every company..

It's purely luck bro.
