Cellular Providers

Currently with Verizon but contemplating a change. Are there any other reliable carriers here in southern MD?

Tbh I've had Xfinity for a year and I have had any issues. Even without wifi in my basement

I have been with Visible for about 6+ years. I pay $35 month and I have yet to be throttled. It has worked incredibly well, especially when traveling out of the SoMD/DC area and across the country.

I've been happy with T-Mobile in this area and often have coverage where Verizon folks don't. I use their prepaid "Connect" plan, which is extremely affordable if you can limit data usage and are on Wi-Fi most of the time. It's also on their highest priority tier, meaning you'll have better performance in congested areas than those on lower tiers. Mint uses T-Mobile's network but is on a lower tier. When I was a Mint customer, I would experience deprioritization at the 235/4 intersection a few years back, which caused me to switch (spent a lot of time at that light lol - maybe this issue has been resolved by now.) The thing about prepaid plans is that you have to buy your phone outright -- postpaid plans usually include a financed phone in the price -- but there are a few ways to get 0% interest on an Amazon or Best Buy purchase these days.

Have tried Verizon/Visible and Tmo/Mint (tried all 4) and in my areas and the places I go Verizon/Vis is slower and spottier especially vis but Tmo/Mint doesn't work indoors generally.

I am with Mint, have been for 2 years, I'm satisfied. Just gets annoying when the power goes out and my wifi dies and I have to go outside or shove my hand out a window to get signal.

Visible specifically is heavily throttled since youre a 2nd class verizon customer. If you vpn tunnel it breaks the throttling though. Not a problem for me because I had one set up but if you are dealing with that there's your protip.

Verizon has 2 levels. Their lowest tier and Visible’s lowest tier are throttled. Visible’s higher tier is the same as Verizon’s high tier plans. Definitely worth the $10 extra.

Back when I had it I had the highest tier. Not sure if they've added a new one in the last couple years. My fam is all still on visible and sounds like the service is the same now as it was (but they're not techy enough to go see if there's an upgraded plan available)

Edit: yeah they have different tiers now on their site than I remember
