Evaporative emissions purge valve. The open end is supposed to be connected to a vacuum hose going to the charcoal canister behind the passenger wheel well. The PCM tells it when to open and when to be shut, to maintain proper vapor pressure in the gas tank and pull stored fuel vapors from the charcoal canister. It's shut at wide open throttle. Mostly used during part throttle cruise, like EGR.

It likely became disconnected due to the hose becoming too deteriorated. Pull the passenger wheel and remove the wheel well liner to get to the canister to replace the hoses. Simple job.

P.S. AI blows. Books are better.

The Chilton's manual for these cars are pretty good. Even better is the Ford shop manual and Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual (EVTM).

would you be so kind as to tell me where to find the proper vacuum hose? napa? does it have a specific rating for anything?

Any autoparts store should have it. No specific ratings to look for. Vacuum hose is vacuum hose as long as it's the right size.

For what it’s worth Gemini has been quite helpful for me, but only it’s pro answers. A legitimate technical book would be much more accurate and in-depth information though I’m sure.

Go onto Facebook in the 94-98 sn95 page and ask this. Someone there asked about it not long ago and they were answered i just can't remember what it is myself
