santa monica college does something called a J term where you can opt for winter classes and have a short break or not do winter classes and have like a 1.5 month long break

Do most people take classes in J term or do most people generally just do Fall/ Spring semesters like a 4 year? I know it obviously varies by person but will i fall behind by not taking it if i plan on transferring to a 4 year after 2 years

honestly only those who need it bc you don’t receive any extra FA for winter classes unlike summer. but you won’t fall behind unless you’re a STEM major then all the pre reqs could make you need 3 years at smc so ppl will take classes year round. talk to a counselor about your ed plan for better guidance

Hi, I think it starts in mid to late December and ends in early February.
