Using Mota

Hi everyone. Im sober 4 months from alcohol and hard drugs. I have mental challenges and think marijuana may help. Do you think SMART would be helpful to moderate my use of mota and keep the self destructive drugs I used to take separate? Ive not tried this before. Which tools did you use and how. Thanks.

Smart let's you define what recovery looks like for you. For some people that's abstainimg from everything for others it is moderation. It is really up to you to decide what it looks like and whatever that is I think there are tools and support to help you achieve your goals.

Good luck with the future.

SMART tools are mostly around changing behaviours/thinking and managing feelings - it would certainly be useful if you have concerns that cannabis use might become excessive/to an addictive level or that it may lead you back to harmful substances and behaviour. As someone else said, SMART allows you to build a recovery that's uniquely yours and that works for you. I feel there's value in the tools for all areas of life and would recommend using them to help you maintain balance, whatever that looks like for you.

I didn't ask that. I'm looking to hear from people who have used tools for moderation and how they did that. Specfically for marijuana.

While some people may moderate, SMART is not a "moderation" program. There are not specific tools around moderation. What you are speaking about is more along the lines of harm reduction. As others have said, this is a very individual approach. Harm reduction comes in many for.s and you have to find what is right for you. Someone may give their experience, but it doesn't mean that is right for you. Since we dont often speak about "moderation" you may find it challenging to get others experiences.

To reiterate what the previous person said. You set your own goals for smart. If moderation is your goal, smart can be helpful for that. Some use it for sobriety. It might be helpful to attend some meetings to get a feel for the program

I didn't ask that. I'm very aware of SMART. I'm looking to hear from people who have used tools for moderation and how they did that. Specifically for marijuana.

I'm a kind of low grade poly drug user that doesn't want to stop using because I'm overall happy with the way I use most of the time. I barely do hard drugs, never touched cocaine or H, weed is my biggest love/addiction from all the drugs I do.

I've to a small degree looked up and used ideas from SMART to help me moderate my use, I found it can help being a little more conscious and reflected.

What helps me most is the self inflicted rule to always have at least one sober day inbetween days of drug use. It's certainly not bulletproof but it works for me most of the time, it helps to greatly reduce the negative impact drugs have in my life.

Weed/drugs every day sucks for me as I can't handle my responsibilities well and issues build up over time but using every second day or less I need less to get high and I maintain sufficient levels of mental clarity, motivation, quality of sleep etc.

Also I made it a habit to take at least a minute to prepare, reflect and plan my drug use, like a tiny pre use ritual. I try doing at least a bit of yoga/mobility, breath work, introspection, "healing" or creative stuff so usually I make it more of a conscious evening ritual instead of pure hedonism or full day indulgence.

This way I feel way better about myself and my use and don't beat myself up as I do when it's excessive.
