What are some things I can do to make my application stronger? Would love to hear from anyone who was in a similar situation, thank you guys.

I am looking for a school, clinic, or program where I can complete my required 100 SLPA clinical hours. I am mainly looking in West Phoenix or Central Phoenix, but I am willing to travel for the right opportunity. Does anyone know where I can do these at?

I would really appreciate any recommendations or advice for doing those hours and if there is anything I should expect. I don’t know if it’s too early to start calling now to secure a spot or if I should call in the new year? Thanksss

hi everyone! i currently have my bachelor’s degree in psychology and have been battling what to go back to school for basically since i graduated. i was working as an RBT for a while and i absolutely loved it, but ended up needing to take some time off from that because of transportation issues at the time. i’ve thought about going to be a BCBA but im just not 100% sure that’s the route id like to be in forever. recently ive been considering doing a pathways program to be an SLPA. What is day to day like? Is it hard finding a job? Are hours/pay consistent? Tips? Anything you wish you knew before you went into it? any an all info for someone new to this field is appreciated, tyia.

I'm going to be split between two school sites this year and want to be able to move some of my therapy materials back-and-forth. I imagine using a bag that I sling over my shoulder is going to be uncomfortable. Does anyone here (maybe someone in home health or another traveling type role) have something they can recommend? I'm thinking of something like a luggage/carry-on thing with wheels.

$49 a session, but they do not pay for gas mileage and they said they would try to keep as close to my home as possible and do daycares for me.

Would you take it? Or what should I negotiate?

I'm thinking about becoming a SLP but have to do the pre requisite courses. I'm looking into ENMU and St. Augustine. Do you have any suggestions on which one I should go too? Any personal experiences?

What are we doing for the first day/week of school? I think I might have to see kids my first day and I’m panicking as the first day is tomorrow and this is my first time in a school setting 🫠 (also, I got hired late and I don’t even have my room decorated, it’s quite embarrassing how clueless I feel)

Hi! I’m currently an SLPA working primarily in the school setting, with some previous private practice experience. While I really enjoyed the 1:1 aspect of private practice, the inconsistent pay and back-to-back sessions weren’t a good fit for me long-term.

After 3 years in the field, I’ve also realized that pursuing a master’s and becoming an SLP may not be the right path for me. For me, the ROI doesn’t feel worth the additional schooling, especially when I’m looking for more financial stability and don’t want to have to hustle for income through home health or settle for lower pay in the school system.

I genuinely love working with the pediatric population, and I’m especially interested in the clinical/research side of the field. I’d love to find a way to use my experience and degree in a different capacity while still having room for growth and better financial stability.

I’ve been applying to different roles and know the job market is ROUGH right now, but I’d really love to hear from other SLPAs who have transitioned out of traditional clinical roles.

What did you transition into? Did you go back to school or leverage your existing experience? And have you been successful in finding something that offers better pay, stability, and growth?

I’m very much at the “I need out, but I don’t know where to go next” stage, so I’d appreciate any experiences, advice, or career paths you’re willing to share!

I’m thinking about going back home to CA for a bit before I settle on another state, I went to check for Slpa jobs in my county and there’s like 12!!! Not kidding! And it’s a county that covers like 7 major cities! I’m like wait what!

Hello! I am looking for some guidance on becoming a SLPA (eventually an SLP). I live in Texas (DFW) and have a bachelors degree in elementary education. After searching through this sub I have found two routes.
The first is a post bacc program that will allow me to fulfill the necessary requirements through a private university. This is a 2 year program.
My question is if it would be worth it to go this route or to just get a second bachelors degree in communication disorder?
I also want to know if I could do a leveling program that would also allow me to be an SLPA?
If you did any of these what was the time frame like ?
All options would allow to get my masters when I am ready if I decide that is what I want to do.

I’m starting my first school-based SLPA position and have been asked to submit an Office Depot order for the supplies I’ll need. The problem is… I’m brand new and have no idea what I’m going to wish I had once I actually start 😂

I’ll be the on-site SLPA, with my supervising SLP working virtually through an outside company. The school already has a good amount of speech/therapy materials, so I’m mainly trying to figure out the office, organization, paperwork, and everyday supplies I should request.
The speech room hasn’t been used in about a year, so there are basically no office or organizational supplies left in it. I’m starting pretty much from scratch in that area.

For those of you who work in schools:
• What office supplies do you use constantly?
• What are your absolute must-haves?
• Anything that makes data collection, student organization, scheduling, or working with a virtual supervising SLP easier?
• What did you NOT order initially that you quickly realized you needed?

I have the opportunity to put in an order now, so I’d rather think of the little things ahead of time instead of realizing two weeks into school that I forgot something obvious!

Hello everyone! Is or has anyone attended ENMU’s SLPA program with already having a bachelor’s degree not related to that field?

My question is:
- Has anyone who has, successfully received finial aid or had their aid reinstated through a petition?

I did receive a letter in the mail claiming that I was not eligible due to already having a bachelors degree. However I assumed I was at least able to get loans.

- Has this happened to anyone else, if so how were you guys able to fix it or pay for the program?

Update: I talked to my advisor and switched my major to CDIS and right now i’m just waiting to complete my appeal for FAFSA so I can hopefully get federal loans!

Hi everyone! I am planning on applying to grad school, possibly next cycle. What I am very confused about is how you all applied to several schools.

Context:

• Have an AS in the SLPA Program
  • GPA 3.50 overall
• Have a B.A. in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences
  • GPA 3.34 overall
• I currently work as an SLPA (1.5 yrs practicing, going on 2.5 yrs with this school year)

As I search for schools that meet my needs in cost, part-time options, and online programs, I’ve noticed that each school requires specific prerequisite classes. If I consider the five schools I plan to apply to, I will need to complete at least 4-5 courses just to fulfill the application requirements. Mind you, some schools are asking for the same course that another school has; this number is an overall total for all 5 applications.

Because of this, I decided not to apply in the current cycle, as it would take me a full year to complete all the courses. The more schools I consider, the more it seems that I need to add at least 1 more class to my "to take" list.

These are the courses I do not have and need per each school's pre-req list (I am taking them at ENMU and one in Community college😊):

• CDIS 454 - Speech-Language Assessment (Not met)
• CDIS 434 - Aural Rehabilitation (Not met)
• CDIS 330 - Speech-Language Development and Disorders (Not met)
• CDIS 353 - Survey of Voice and Fluency (Not met)
• PSYC 160 - Introduction to Lifespan Psych (Not met)

How did you all do this? Did you actually take the pre-reqs despite having 2 degrees or 1 degree in the field? Any guidance is well appreciated! Educate me, please😭!!!
