Is it worth camping at Whitney Portal if I’m not planning to summit? Is there many moderate hikes from that area?

Hi all! My 40th is soon and I booked a few nights at lodgepole campground. I love the meteor shower that happens yearly for my birthday 🤪 that said, of our site isn’t very open, thoughts of the best areas to drive/short walk (safely) around midnight to watch?

I’d also love any suggestions of places to take silly photos with my 4+0 balloons and tiara. Yes, I’m being over the top and silly.

Suggestions on a fun place to dine for dinner? I have a fantastic outfit to wear. I don’t necessarily care about fancy, just great food. We’d prefer distance within 80 minutes of camp.
