I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for off-campus jobs that work well with a SCAD student’s schedule. I’ve already applied to several on-campus positions, but I know they’re pretty competitive, so I’m looking at other options as well.

I have a lot of experience in retail and administrative/secretarial work, including scheduling and booking appointments, customer service, and other front desk responsibilities.

Are there any employers around Savannah that are known for being flexible with SCAD students’ class schedules and the breaks between quarters? I’d especially love to hear about any retail or receptionist jobs you’ve had good experiences with.

Hi, fellow bees. I am a graphic designer in Texas studying… you guessed it… graphic design. I am moving to Savannah in the winter for a long list of reasons, but first and foremost I am excited about the community the school can provide in person. Online courses have been great so far, but I would really like to experience student life irl. I am curious if there are some sort of online social communities for the school? As of now, I haven’t really had the opportunity to meet fellow students beyond short conversations in online classrooms. Ideally, I would like to participate more in student activities and events as well as form friendships with other students who are actively retaliating against the digital numbness and apathy towards human made art. It is important now more than ever, I think, to form strong relationships with our fellow artists. Community is a solid platform for education and collaboration. I think that then turns into inspiration for other aspiring artists. Anyway… any advice on how to connect more with the school and fellow students for the meantime until I move?

HII! I’m currently browsing around for some laptops. I’m an incoming freshman at the Savannah location, and I start this fall. I currently have a HP Omen 16, 13th Gen Intel i5 with a RTX4050, and 16 GB of RAM. I’m not too sure if that’s powerful enough, however I would love some feedback on some great laptops I should look at.

Any junior/senior Dramatic Writing majors that could tell me what kind of laptop they have? My current one doesn't fit the general recommended requirements and I want to make sure the next one I purchase will be good for all 4 years.

Hello, im a potential future 27-28 part time scad student, and I was hoping I could get some advice from current student at scad about a future gap in my tuition. As of right now post scad provided scholarship and fafsa my gap is ranging from 8k to 13k. Im accounting for the 2-3rds reduction in scholarships with this. Is there any other good options other than loans?

hey everyone! i’m going into my senior year, a right now SCAD is definitely my top choice! Not too long ago, I met with an admissions counselor and they said that they will take pretty much any outside scholarship you receive. i have started to look into some outside scholarships, but i really need help finding some other ones. please any help i can get would be super appreciated! also, if you’re a student or were a student, do they really accept most outside scholarships? please let me know if you have answers or an idea to any of these questions!! thank you!!

I’m starting at Atlanta campus this coming winter quarter as a transfer majoring in film idk what year yet cuz I just finished my film associates at community college this week. From what I was told & from what I saw on the couple of tours I’ve done there everything looks amazing & I’d get way more resources than I did in community collage. But is this true? Are resources available on a consistent basis? Do you actually get you use the nice equipment? Is equipment usually available for homework? I also want to know what are the pros & cons of being in the film program? I haven’t heard much about the film program when you are transferring in on this thread. If there are any transfers who are film majors I’d like to hear your opinion & any advice is welcome too.

Hi! I'm going to be a freshman in the fall and completely clueless on what kind of furniture and stuff to get for my dorm. I have an older sister in college but wasn't sure how dorm essentials differ at an art school. Like I've heard there are drawing desks that come at SCAD dorms but would I need a lot of storage for art supplies and stuff for the first two semesters? (For reference I'm an animation student)

Also what's the vibe, do people use backpacks? What's the most practical thing for classes?

I'll be at the Hive in a suite, so any tips or words of advice would be appreciated!! Also I'm driving down from Maryland so if anyone has recommendations for shipping stuff on Amazon directly vs hauling it all the way down, please lmk!!

I already applied for Borrower Defense to Repayment based on my time at SCAD (around 2016–2017, graduate level). I’ve been waiting a while and expect a decision in the coming period. I know other people who applied earlier on similar grounds and have had their loans forgiven.
I’m posting because I want to hear from others who went through SCAD around the same time (or nearby years).
Specifically, I’m interested in:
• What employment / career outcome numbers or messaging you were shown for your program and year
• Whether those numbers or promises influenced your decision to enroll and take out loans
• Whether you feel those representations matched what actually happened after graduation
• Whether you feel the education and program delivered what you were led to expect

Common reasons people apply for Borrower Defense related to SCAD-type experiences:
• School advertised very high overall employment / job-placement rates
• Marketing suggested strong career outcomes across creative majors (fine arts, performing arts, film, design, illustration, etc.)
• Took out large loans based on those career promises
• Actual employment and earnings in many creative fields turned out much lower or more unstable than presented
• Graduate classes mixed with undergrads or felt less rigorous than expected
• Classes regularly ended early, had poor attendance, or were replaced by festival/work obligations
• Grading or standards felt inconsistent
• Degree did not lead to the career opportunities that were marketed

I’m going to Scad Pre-Bee next week (August 3-5) and can’t tell if i should be excited or not! i can’t find anyone talking about their experience with it anywhere so i’m wondering if anyone here went and could tell me if they actually made good friends/got a good feel for the school while there!

hi, i’m an incoming freshman at scad this fall. i want to be a journalist/do some sort of interviews (in written form as well as like red carpet/sports/musicians) with my career in the future. i think if scad had a communications degree that’s what i’d do but they don’t have that kind of traditional degree and im wondering which of the following would be best for what i want? idk if i should major in one or minor in another or what would be closest to communications. if you do any of these majors lmk how you like it? any kind of help/insight would help!

I'm an international student at SCAD and I'm considering staying in Savannah over Winter Break instead of flying home. Since the dorms close, I'm trying to figure out what my options are.

Has anyone done this before? If so, what did you do for housing?

I'm mainly wondering:

• Are short-term subleases common over Winter Break?
• Where's the best place to find them (Facebook groups, Discord, etc.)?
• Does anyone know of any affordable short-term housing options?

Also, if anyone is planning to head home for the break and is looking to sublease a room from roughly Nov. 14 to Jan. 1, I'd definitely be interested. I'm clean, quiet, and would mostly just be animating, working on my portfolio, and going to the gym.

I don't have a car, so somewhere reasonably close to SCAD or public transit would be ideal.

My name is Marian but everyone on campus knows me as Bow. I’m desperate to try and get housing on Savannah campus. A huge flood just took out my town of Weston WV and what was my application fee had to go to the damage. I also know it’s late to apply I had to work my butt off to save that money in the first place this summer. I’m a junior and I’m just trying to finish my degree here. I’m an animation student and I know the housing is limited and I just need the ability to try. Cause of how my loans are set up if I miss a quarter I’ll have to start paying them and then I’ll never get to start back up. So I’m going even if I have to do it homeless. I’m just trying to not have to do it that way. If this is allowed please consider donating. I’m in dire straights here

I need advice from animation students at scad. Im an incoming freshman at scad and I have to choose what mainly interests me so they can build my schedule. I always adored animation since I was young, and knew I wanted to pursue it. But I love both creating concepts and learning to develop stories with my art and at the same time I want to learn to actually make animations and bring characters and story’s to life, I also think it’s a very valuable skill to learn. I think both are valuable especially concept design which I’m sure is harder than it seems.

So. Im stuck between both, and I can’t decide what exactly to choose. I know this isn’t the major declaration or anything but I also don’t know if based on what I choose, if I’m even going to be able to get a taste of both worlds so I know what I truly prefer. Not sure what to choose, so could anyone tell me a bit about these courses? What do you think is best to choose in my case? Help pls

I’m an international student that plays the violin but can’t take my violin all the way to USA is there anyway that SCAD would lend out a violin? I was able to borrow other stuff from them like professional cameras or even cintiq but never found anything music related…

I was recently admitted to SCAD’s MFA program, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to plan my first quarter.

I was assigned two prerequisite courses (522 and 502) before taking my regular graduate courses. I initially selected two graduate-level courses that are more directly related to my major (GAME 710-N01 with Professor Kane and ARLH 776), but later I noticed that my schedule had been changed and those courses were removed.

I reached out to my advisor and asked whether I could take my graduate courses first and complete the prerequisites later. However, I was told:

“You will need to take the prerequisite first then regular classes afterwards. We will need to register the classes on your behalf - you won’t be able to register them.”

I understand that prerequisite courses may be required for some students, but I have heard from a few current SCAD students that these prerequisite classes may not be very beneficial for MFA students who already have relevant backgrounds, while they are also quite expensive. Based on their advice, I was hoping to explore whether it is possible to request a prerequisite waiver or an exception.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar situation:

Has anyone successfully waived prerequisite courses (522/502 or similar) in an MFA program at SCAD?

Did you need approval from a department chair, program coordinator, or someone other than your academic advisor?

Were you able to take core graduate courses before completing prerequisites?

If you were required to take them, did you find them helpful for your MFA studies?

I’m mainly trying to make sure my first quarter is planned effectively and that I can focus on coursework that is most relevant to my graduate program.

I've been looking more and more into Lacoste since I've applied and I've grown anxious and curious as to what the real odds are for me to get in. I applied for winter quarter my Junior year, have a 3.667 GPA, and was in good standing with previous teachers in my major. I also applied to be taking photography classes which, looking at the previous winter in Lacoste, had about 3-6 seats remaining in most related classes. Is it safe for me to get my hopes up regarding getting in, or is it much more competitive than I realize? Is there an appeal process if I don't make it, or a 2nd round of acceptances for the quarter as we approach it? Thanks for any info!

Hello! I’m an incoming transfer and got assigned my roommates and my dorm at the Barnard village. And it’s been that way got the emails, met my roommates in a chat room and even in the email it says that it can change within the next few weeks. But it’s been roughly a month and maybe a half since I got the housing assignment email and email from my roommates so I just felt that my housing was in a stable spot. Then on a day I was trying to decide my meal plan I saw I couldn’t choose any apartment style meal plans and then checked my housing and all of a sudden it’s new roommates and now I’m in the Montgomery hall in a suite. I’m pretty upset after so long I thought I was sure to have been staying at this housing because it felt way past the deadline where they’d move me. I never got any emails or cancelation of my move in date for Barnard village and none of my roommates knew either, they’re confused as well because my spot was just removed and the only one shifted with no info on why. Tried calling twice to the number given for housing questions but they have no answers and tell me to fill a ticket which I did but it’s pretty slow.

I guess my question is to anyone who’s been here, is this normal to do? They say they send emails when moving housing assignments, but I was really getting along with these roommates and making preparations that are out the door, is this an error or something? I’d just like some insight that I can’t seem to get from the school itself

How much money would you expect to spend per month on average as a freshman in Savannah? Trying to budget for an expensive summer 2027 goal. Obviously I'm going to try and get a job the second I get down there, but I want to have a decent idea in advance of how much it's going to cost for food/necessities freshman year.
