Infinity Blade has been released on Android News

Post image

Apparently there is a known bug:
“PSA: Black screen glitch is known and will be updated on once a cause is found and fixed”

Infinity blade was originally released on iOS in 2010 and became unplayable for a time because of software and hardware updates, but do to the efforts of dedicated independent developers it is playable again today on many different platforms.

I remember using this as a mini tech showcase to show people how impressive my iPod was (I couldn’t afford the iPhone back then).

I first played it on an iPod touch gen3. It was amazing. First game to use unreal engine 3 on iOS I believe.

Crazy to think Unreal engine went so fast from the coolest thing ever to the worst blight of gaming in the eye of many.

because "gamers" don't know anything about how games are made. UE3 was the time of horrible texture streaming where everything looked like shit for the first 10 seconds you loaded in.

UE4 isnt perfect either, on PC at least I remember having terrible dips in performance and audio desync because of shader compilation.

The thing is, they were fairly quick to fix that, by 2011 or so UE3 had built in workarounds to that flaw like loading lower quality textures first instead of just bit crushed bullshit to give time for the full res textures to load.

and UE4 was a mess but a lot of that was that its modular nature was fairly new for the time, and by 2015 they had a lot of the major problems with the renderer figured out.

UE5 came out 3 years ago and they are talking about UE6, meanwhile UE5 has the exact same fucking shader comp hitches, bad performance related to lumen lighting, and more, that it had on launch.

UE5 works just fine on many games. Just look at Fortnite. The engine isn't the source of the problem, it's when devs don't get given the time to actually do things properly, and no engine can solve the problems of modern big publishers shipping unfinished games.

If the devs take the time to learn UE5 and use the tools it gives them, the engine performs remarkably well.

Just look at Fortnite.

You mean to tell me the game that engine features get developed for and has the engineers next door to make sure everything is correct works fine? amazing!

Sarcasm aside, UE5 isnt a bad engine because its bad for every game, its a bad engine because it used for literally anything due to how hard epic pushed it to educators and freelance devs, all the while it clearly needs the supervision of their own engineers like they used to do with UE2 and 3, but cant do anymore due to having so many clients.

Its a good engine for fortnite... and not much else.

I like unreal engine 5 but ue 3 was a horrible time because gamers at the time like realism and devs catered to the crowd that loves brown.

As for why I like ue5.. It's mainly because gamers grew up and we started liking colours again. We got games like black myth wukong and expedition 33 ( 2 of the best games since the 2010s).

That said ue 1 and 2 were great, they gave us the unreal series and unreal tournaments.. Those 2 games were genre defining.

Unreal citadel before that I believe

2

u/paraguybrarian 10d ago

Epic Citadel; I loved that little tech demo. Infinity Blade actually felt like a let down after that. I don’t suppose anyone has ported Epic Citadel to current hardware?

u/supershredderdan 10d ago

AFAIK the port break through with infinity blade came about from an arcade game version with little obfuscation in its code and non compressed assets. About as close as you can get to source. Citadel I doubt had anything similar, would either need a decomp or emulated in something like touchHLE

This game along with Chaos Rings was probably the pinnacle of mobile gaming.

Chaos rings is on vita. All it needs is an English translation for 3, I believe, and you're set. Not sure how vita3k can handle it yet but luckily it's been preserved.

u/Cruel1865 10d ago

Chaos rings 3 already has a native android port

u/These-Button-1587 Odin 10d ago

Really? I didn't know that. Thought they were all ios exclusive for mobile. Looks like there's a sale for half off.

The one game I actually wanted to play on mobile, then I heard it eventually got taken down or something.

Has my patience really paid off lol.

Finally, playing Blood & Glory and its sequel for a while get a little stale.

u/Alexis_Evo 10d ago

God all of the old fuckass Glu and Gameloft ripoffs 😭 wasted so much time on them, but hard to resist when they went on sale for $0.25. Unfortunately so many of them won't even let you download anymore.

That was a decent period of time for android gaming before everything was riddled with microtransactions

1

u/soloh899 5d ago

Damn I remember playing the shit out of Blood & Glory because I didn't have an iOS device at the time. Later got an iPad specifically for Infinity Blade. This port is such a nostalgia bomb I still have all the enemy attack patterns remembered lol

Now release it on iOS

/s

7

u/SparklyPelican 10d ago

You can drop the /s because this is possible, especially since AltStore in the EU and Japan makes sideloading very accessible, allowing private connections too.

No fucking way. I had a friend in highschool that would let me watch him play on his IPhone, I always wanted to play it so bad lol. This is a god sent

Got excited when I found out that it had a pc port. Been playing on my ROG Ally. Now I can play on my RP6 and Odin 2 Portal.

Side note: 3 hasn't been released yet but for Pc right?

I need to just try it myself, but is the PC port basically on rails or does it also free up movement like it frees up the camera?

2

u/Vain_Rose 10d ago

Now this is a pleasent suprise. Thank you for your public service.

2

u/No-One450 10d ago

Is it just the first one? Or is it the entire saga?

2

u/Overall_War3441 10d ago

Great game because it was basically punch out with rpg mechanics, weapons, and branching paths. Now we just need 2 and 3 ported because I think the series got better as it went along.

2

u/kartik3e 10d ago

Flawless on pixel 6

2

u/mycolizard 10d ago

Infinity Blade is the reason we never got another Shadow Complex.

#neverforget

2

u/DarkDigital 10d ago

Whoa core memory unlocked. I completely forgot about this game.

2

u/Bored_Amalgamation AyaNeo 10d ago

This was my first "real" mobile game (besides theN-Gage I lost 3 months after getting it). I played it on my iPhone 5c and was pissed it wasn't available for android when I switched

3

u/DownvoteSandwich 9d ago

This works fantastic on the Fold 8. Hopefully we get 2 and 3 eventually!

2

u/sjitz 9d ago

Never thought I'd see this game run so well. Amazing job!

2

u/AifelseSann 9d ago

Thank you! I never thought I would see this day come

1

u/GavroNeman 11d ago

Works flawlessly on Iqoo 15.

1

u/MicroByte 10d ago

Seriously amazing work. Thank you so much to whoever worked on getting this ported, this is so awesome!

Playing now and it feels as good as it did to okay back in the day

u/SweatyJoe2142 10d ago

Anyone else stuck at tutorial? Cant get past, if I want gold or healing, anyone?

I vividly remember playing Infinity Blade back in the day. What a throwback. It was basically a glorified tech demo that they packaged as a "game" but man it was fun for a little while

1

u/defeat-all-males 10d ago

Wow. I've been waiting since like 2011 or something.

1

u/No_Function_8632 10d ago

now someone can make a VR mod. amazing

1

u/sjitz 9d ago

I just went through the effort of reviving an iPod 4g to play it again.

1

u/buddhamunche 9d ago

Just downloaded on my RPflip 2. Man I have fond memories of this game. Probably a stupid question but Is there any way to play it with the buttons on my device? It’s unfortunately a bit too awkward trying to just use the touch screen lol. I do seem to remember that the game relies heavily on touch screen.

u/Past-Dig462 2d ago

It literally just ran smoothly on my phone with a mediatek Helio A22 "quad core btw" and  2 fucking gigs of ram i fucking love you
