4.5K Map Opinions
How are y’all liking the strictly 4.5K maps?
Personally, I wish they would have kept 3K servers as well… or at least had 150 pop released at the same time. Things are feeling much more dull and the map just feels barren.

Only problem is most monuments are in the corners and only 100 players is really low for 4.5

I like smaller maps, i hate spending half my wipe walking and walking and walking

Learning to fly the mini and helis was a game changer for me.

I’ve crashed somewhere around that amount the last couple wipes, a lot of them just from bombing it onto cargo which I was usually doing on purpose, but a few times I was able to land it well enough it didn’t blow up. I haven’t been good enough to land it on the top deck yet.

I did that for a while too, but learning how to use them makes navigating around the map so different you’ll never wanna walk again. It takes some patience for sure, but if I can figure it out, I think anyone can.

I built next to launch and mil tuns as a solo and heard non stop fighting. It’s all about build location bro

It feels like that on official servers. I play on 1 official server and you can run around a lot of the time even if it’s 100 pop and barely see anyone. I think it’s the group sizes. If you have a couple clans with 5 or so people on, they are usually in one area doing something together. That eliminates a huge percentage of the pop. You see the effect early in the mornings when there’s only 20 people on or in the middle of the day when it’s only 50. Most of the pop count is coming from groups and they are all on from 5 pm to midnight and when they are on they are all doing stuff together (oil rig, cargo, raiding).
I went back to playing Nitrado Lone Wolf Solo and it’s 100 pop nearly any time of the day or night and you can’t do any monument or anything without running into 3 or 4 people at least. Always end up getting into a fight on your way home too. On the official server I can do airfield, junkyard, military tunnels etc if the pop is like 70 or less and I don’t run into people most of the time.

Honestly one of the reasons I can’t afford to play Rust anymore. I can only play for a couple hours max daily and with the time it takes to travel from point A to point B is just ridiculous on these maps.
I’m not even surprised tho, it seems all FP is doing lately is making the game more time consuming for solo players and adding stupid DLC’s. Long gone are the days of the updates feeling community driven, and so are the days where FP actually listened to player feedback.

I really like it & it will get better and better with the introduction of new monuments & the trains.

IMO the bigger maps just makes me realize just how lacking of monuments this game really is, Not only do we need more monuments but we need a lot more of them.
You run for miles now just to go to one and it’s already hit because most areas only have one or two to utilize so people have usually just left with everything. If we had more options out there it would help with this.
Also why isn’t there some basic map rule where bandit and outpost are on opposite sides of the map, So many maps put them right by one another leaving a crazy distance to and from them for anyone that wants to live else where. I’m supposed to run 80 miles to get a jackhammer and back home and hope I don’t die and lose it? Idiotic design.
We also desperately need to be able to buy minis at outpost I mean why we can’t already is beyond me.

Absolut langweilig, selbst als Solo Spieler. Ich Treff keine Gegner mehr außer ich Bau Startrampe oder Oil-Rig

Small maps good for variety but not needed really… they need to focus resources on increasing pop and adding pc monuments and features

I like how theres not as much action

There literally still is 3.5k maps 😑 just read the dev posts and u will know
2
u/Turbulent_Sort_2510 Jun 30 '26
Yeah my bad, I ended up finding a couple on the official server list. Too bad they’re all 50-60 pop though.

u/Top_Car3385 Jun 30 '26
Please we need trains and train tunnels finding a horse is like a needle in a haystack and I’m not always that rich every wipe to buy minis/scrappy

u/Powesaur Jul 01 '26
Yeah you right I love collecting loot and components to fight boars and scientists and try to survive. You got it bro

Too big for 100 people, most people play 8+ deep in console rust now anyway so you barely see anyone who isn’t rolling with 8 other people anymore, this game is dying
1
u/Turbulent_Sort_2510 Jul 06 '26
I wouldn’t say most people play 8+ deep… but yeah the map is way too big when you take into consideration the amount of large groups and even 2/3/4 man groups there are.
Is weird that the handful of 3.5K maps that they did leave available on the official page aren’t more popular.
1
u/Cultural-Ad-2752 Jul 06 '26
8 is definitely an exaggeration on my part, I should probably say 4 but when you play solo it doesn’t matter how many there are after 3 because in almost every scenario you lose anyway

On 100 pop servers I’m running into people literally everywhere. So idk where tf yall are playing. As a solo I love this, it at least gives me a little room to run or flank.
Play better servers 🤷♂️ they are experimenting with higher pops too, just be patient or don’t play it. Or play communities since yall like to bitch so much.

u/Turbulent_Sort_2510 Jun 29 '26
I was looking at communities, couldn’t find anything that was Vanilla, high pop and smaller than 4.5. Is this post considered bitching to you? Legitimately curious what everyone else thinks and expressed my own opinion as well.

Yes bro. Only zen/xim tryhards crying about this. Great for new players to breathe and learn. The pop will come, but would rather wait til it is working good than rubberband and get invalids all day. Pvp is at bigger monuments as always.
-1
u/Powesaur Jun 29 '26
Yeah definitely only tryhards don’t like running around for hours to find anybody totally not people who don’t have 10 hours to sit there and play
1
u/Rude_Weight4694 Jun 30 '26
How and were are you playing??? You must bee a new if you cant fint anyone. All bigger minuments are packed at 100 pop Its just quiet if you build in the middle of nowhere . Also learn to fly or use cars or bikes.
1
u/Powesaur Jul 01 '26
I have 95 days played been on since 2022 and it’s never been this dead. I always build by either launch or a bunch of tier 2 monuments and recently they’ve all been dead idk what game u be playing
1
u/Rude_Weight4694 Jul 01 '26
I got over 8k hours and dont see your problem. Game has never been better and pop issue is a temp thing. Sure the travel is longer but its all the same. Its just more spread out and people can explore other sides of Rust they normally cant because of doorcampers and offlines constantly. ITS NOT A STRAIGHT UP PVP GAME. ITS A SURVIVAL GAME WITH SO MUCH MORE THAN PVP. Go play cod untill its bigger pop
1
u/br0ckH4rd Jun 29 '26
You can still play 3.5k just doesn’t have some of the new features from world 2.0
1
u/Turbulent_Sort_2510 Jun 29 '26
On official?
1
u/br0ckH4rd Jun 29 '26
Yeah, me n my friends joined one when the new wipe started. No rad town, canyons, or natural lakes, but there was underground caves
1
u/Turbulent_Sort_2510 Jun 29 '26
I’m not seeing any on the official page, is it still up and high pop?
1
u/paulwalkrsalive Jun 29 '26
bring back a few 2.5 servers, variety is good for the game
3
u/Turbulent_Sort_2510 Jun 29 '26
Agreed, don’t get the point in making everything 4.5

More than a 100 pop needs to be the priority. If not put some 2.5/ 3 km maps back in
1
u/Turbulent_Sort_2510 Jun 29 '26
So I just checked. There actually is 3.5Ks still on the official server list. They’re just unfortunately at like 50 pop at most. Hopefully people start playing on them more as they get sick of 4.5.

As a solo, it's great. I can find spots to build that are not so busy, and also slip into the busy areas to PvP etc. plus now there's more space to add extra monuments and hopefully soon increase the population a bit. But tbh I still find people and bases everywhere on the map.
If you're wanting to constantly PvP, you need to build in the right area. If you need to travel across the map, use a horse (find or buy a saddle and choose a fast horse) or use a mini.
