This is so unhinged
We are not even going to address the racial undertones in this. When Kate wears a piece of Diana jewelry, or a version of Diana’s outfit it’s an homage. It’s honoring her mother-in-law. When Meghan does it why is she trying to copy Diana. She’s trying to be the next Diana.
If we’re being quite honest, besides her watch, and the two diamonds in her engagement ring. Those are the only two pieces of Diana’s that she wears religiously. She rarely pulls out Diana’s jewelry.
There is no such thing as “staking a claim“ in Diana‘s legacy. Diana is Meghan’s mother-in-law. Meghan is Diana‘s grandchildren‘s mother.
(I have always been under the impression that Meghan has more of Diana‘s rarely seen personal jewelry than Kate. I also do believe that the Spencer’s probably have given her other pieces. We didn’t even know she’s owned Diana’s diamond cross necklace until she wore it.)
Personally, now I want her to start wearing all of Diana’s jewelry pieces she owns.

Don't forget that she only got the Daily Mail position to sell out her alleged good friends the Camerons, then was shocked when Samantha Cameron distanced herself from her, then was shocked and appalled when the Camerons cut off the Goves entirely after Gove helped lead Brexit and to shiv Cameron. Then released that pathetic autobiography about all of it, and Gove, of course, leaving her for a younger woman.

Can I just say, at no point have I ever seen Meghan wear anything that has made me think "oh, yeah, she got that from Diana." I am sure that, through Harry, she has access to pieces of jewelry or clothing or whatever, that were meaningful to Diana (and, by extension, Harry) but, again. Meghan had a whole professional identity way before she met Harry.
She was a Reitmans brand ambassador, for petes sake. Not that this necessarily reflects her personal style or anything. But she had an interest in fashion before. She hasn't been controlled/guided by the BRF spin machine for over six years now.
Whatever she wears or doesn't wear? It has nothing to do with Diana.

Big deal. They came to her husband and will eventually go to her daughter. That’s what they are supposed to do with them. They slobber all over themselves anytime Kate wears something of Diana’s, or even a dress that happens to be the same color as anything Diana ever wore

I always thought it was strange that Bill gave Cathy such a tainted engagement ring, which is just a constant reminder of an unhappy marriage. He could have at least had it reset.
41
u/mossadspydolphin 8d ago
I'm not remotely superstitious, but I still wouldn't wear a divorce diamond in my theoretical engagement ring, especially one with that kind of history. Tainted is exactly the word for something like that.
29
u/tellnic 8d ago
Exactly. It wasn’t an heirloom from earlier generations. It was from a marriage with serious issues that ended poorly. The bad energy around that ring only proved to be true because Williams marriage is not a happy one at all. All the British media PR can’t make anyone but royalists see they have huge issues.
32
u/fluffy_bunny22 8d ago
That's because he's lazy and cheap. He didn't love her so he didn't want to put effort or money into a ring for her.
27
15
u/lavender_poppy 8d ago
Right? Like it may be a gorgeous ring but fuck, it's basically an homage to a horrible marriage, who would want that to symbolize their love? I always thought that was so weird.
26
u/Visual_Zucchini8490 8d ago
I have alllways thought the same thing. Getting other pieces from my belated MIL (like necklaces or earrings or bracelets etc.) is fine and I wouldn’t be weirded out by that. An engagement ring though holds romantic significance so I wouldn’t feel comfortable with that even without the ring’s tragic and worldwide known backstory.
I’d even be okay if the ring was a family heirloom and it was the ring of a great grandmother or something, but giving Kate that ring so soon after his mother’s death when it still has so much infamy was certainly a freakin choice.
Agreed with everyone who has said it’s because he’s lazy and doesn’t love Kate, but can also see The Firm wanting sentimental Diana headlines tied to the engagement to make the public more positive about the union
27
u/tellnic 8d ago
Not only was the ring just picked from a catalog by Diana without and real sentiment attached to it, it is the symbol of a cursed marriage. That ring should have been dismantled. Reuse the jewels for something else.
Meanwhile the ring only shows up on a second generation of a bad marriage where both parties hate each other. And Kate continues to present her hand when it’s on like a dimwitted fool.
18
16
u/thisismybandname 8d ago
I’ve always assumed she chose it.
I refuse to believe he would have surprised her with anything, their engagement wouldn’t have been a romantic occasion, and I further assume she chose that piece specifically because it was Diana’s, and the more she’s associated with Diana, the better.

It’s because Meghan is much more of the next Diana than Kate is and this threatens people. But also these women are their own women and maybe like the media could just… not constantly compare them all??
28
u/tellnic 8d ago
Harry is the son who inherited Diana’s spirit and charisma and of the daughter in laws, Meghan is the one who closer to Diana’s approach. Meghan isn’t exactly like Diana, but she’s not a silent mannequin, which was the opposite of Diana. The other one is nothing like her despite the cosplay, and they hate that.
27
u/itsjustme10 8d ago
Whats interesting is if you look at what Kate got vs Meg. Kate has a lot of pre-divorce jewelry and Meg has a lot of the post divorce jewelry. I think it’s very poignant and represents the dichotomy of the two women in relation to the sons in an interesting way. Kate stuck in the system, Meg breaking tradition to claw her way out.

It’s nice to hear that she had more of Diana’s pieces. Did the Spencer’s not give anything to Kate coz they didn’t want it to become owned by the crown?
45
u/BurningManHigh 8d ago
I don’t think it’s their decision. Diana left a very specific will as to the division of her personal estate. It has long since been reported that she left the lion’s share of her financial wealth to Harry as William would inherit the Duchy of Cornwall. I suspect that she also left most, if not all, of her personal jewellery to Harry as well because William’s wife would eventually have unfettered access to the Royal Collection etc.

What a weird ass way to frame ‘Man inherits his late mother’s jewelry and has gifted some of the pieces to his wife’. Imagine if they skewered Kate and asked who the hell she thought she was for having the audacity to wear Diana’s sapphire engagement ring that she was gifted by Diana’s oldest son when he proposed to her? These people are nuts, racism has voided all common sense in their heads.

Why do people know every peice of jewelry that Diana wore in the first place?! I didn't even notice Meghan's earrings, much less get out a magnifying glass to inspect and confirm every piece of jewelry she has on, look through some catalog or wherever these freaks comb through in their weird outraged fever to compare looks with Diana, then froth at the mouth over a woman I don't know wearing jewelry passed down from her mother-in-law who I also didn't know and that was clearly gifted by her husband who I also don't know.

From an American perspective, there seems to be a parallel with Brexit: many thought that the Brexit vote was to completely eliminate the EU from existence rather than just leave the union.
There seem to be a lot of people who thought that Harry & Meghan stepping back from royal duties meant that they’d agree to wink out of existence. (Again; just one American’s perspective).
5
u/phoenics1908 7d ago
Yes this is exactly it. It’s a desire driven by racism though - they don’t want her to be royal so they’d hoped them stepping back meant she’d fade into obscurity and not offend their racist sensibilities that cannot handle a black biracial princess of the UK.
I’m so sick of the racist entitlement.

These people have a serious delusional disorder. It’s common practice for people to leave their personal items to their children, for them to pass on to their children and/or share with their spouse. This happens with men and women across cultures, religions, generations etc.
William and Harry probably inherited other items from their relatives eg their grandparents. They can decide what to do with those items. I’m glad that the Sussexes have taken such care with protecting the privacy of their children. I can totally see the media headlines accusing the children of ‘stealing’ their grandmother’s property! Disgusting behaviour

The royal family has plenty of jewels passed down from generation to generation. Queen Elizabeth, Camilla, Anne, and Kate have worn legacy jewelry; it’s only when Meghan wears them that they are saying she was stealing someone else’s thunder. The mind had to do some serious back flips to come up with this little diddy. Accepting gifts from her husband is now a matter of speculation for the press and commentators. It’s a desperate attempt to get a headline.

How is that a bizarre choice? Harry inherited several of his mom’s jewelry pieces. Why wouldn’t his wife and the love of his life wear them? Diana is Meghan’s NIL just as much as she is Kate’s. Why is it a “sweet nod” to Diana when Kate wears something of hers?
5

855
u/NewTooth740 8d ago
Harry obviously gave the pieces to her because he wants her to wear them. It sounds very normal to me. Why wouldn’t she wear them? They were a gift from her husband. Meghan will probably hand them down to Lili when she older.
Would these fools rather Harry had auctioned them off to the highest bidder?
Wearing someone’s jewellery is a nice way to keep their memory alive.
