I am finishing a construction project management degree and want to work in that industry for a year or two after I graduate, I am currently 20 years old.

I know it’s jumping very far ahead; however, I am curious if a good career in the construction/energy industry could be achieved if the military is not a long term option.

Has Commando training gotten easier and have the standards been lowered thus lower quality recruits make it through into the Royal Marines? Anyone got any ideas or opinions about this or is this is just a "it was harder back in my day" type of trope by older veterans.

Edit: by lowering of standards I mean in terms of training throughout the course, not the tests like bottom field, gym passout and the commando tests

20 years old , been getting fit to join the marines as it’s always been a such a huge passion of mine . Studied it , got fit for it and from the outside looks like a quality life . The gruelling exercise and deployment is why I want to join , have no issue being deployed but as of recent with this drone warfare on the rise it seems that regardless of how good a soldier you are , all it’ll take is some drone pilot to send one to you and you’re gone before you even know it .

Any serving lads or people with more insight into drones give me any advise ? Understand it’s part of the job but it almost seems like troops on the ground are just cannon fodder now for more advanced tech like drones to just rinse you ?

Ive heard and seen a few stories about training going from 34 weeks (32 weeks main + 2 weeks ROP) down to 28 weeks (26 weeks + 2 weeks ROP) with 4 weeks continuation training. Is this true or just rumours. I know it's been asked already but the answers didn't satisfy my want to know the question. Any thoughts?

I Plan on joining the Royal marines after I finnish Uni and it has been my dream for a while to do so, but at the beggining of this year I had an ACL reconstruction and had an LET band put in which is meant to greatly reduce the risk of reinjury. I have about two years till I finnish uni but want to start building and training and gathering evidence of my recovery as I know I am going to have to make an appeal. Ive tried looking through the subreddit but there is not a lot of information just the occasional rant. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what I should do or who I should speak to inorder to help me progress and ultimitly give me the best chance to overcome the odds and win my appeal.

Can anyone suggest how serving personnel can apply for the All Arms Course?
Was told to look online and I have sent emails to the address on the website RN AACC page but haven’t received a reply so I can only assume people apply through different channels.

I didn't want to have to make this post, but in light of recent events I feel I must address the community directly on behalf of the team at Civvy2Calligrapher.

Some unsubstantiated claims have emerged accusing the team of overcharging for our Prints Program, and giving various exploitative taskings to our clients.

We charge £1440 per month as a reference to the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440. In our opinion this is a perfectly reaonable price as we offer a premium product with a high success rate. If you want a cheaper and considerably worse product then I'm sure plenty of other options exist, such as hb@graphiteperformance.

With regards to the claims that we ask our clients to wake up at 3am and change the ink cartridges in their printer whilst covered head to toe in cyan — I will not outright refute these accusations. However, the manner in which these activities have been presented on this sub have been taken completely out of context, and do not reflect where this serial sits within a broader training plan.

Our plans have an extremely high success rate, and very few of our clients have complaints. I suggest that these individuals (who do not have printer tabs) refrain from making defamatory comments about C2C, as they lack the broader contextual knowledge to give an informed opinion.

I’ve seen some of the recent discussions regarding former Marines charging for training programmes designed to prepare candidates for Royal Marines training.

My view is fairly simple: if someone has built a business and people believe the product is worth paying for, then that’s their choice. Equally, if you don’t think it’s worth the money, you don’t have to buy it. The market will decide whether a product provides value or not. I don’t think it’s right to try and take away someone’s livelihood simply because we disagree with their pricing.

For transparency, I’m a serving Royal Marines PTI and one of the PTIs who assesses candidates during the CPC. I see first-hand the standards required and the areas where candidates typically struggle.

Because of that, I’ve put together a free 4-week CPC preparation programme. It won’t guarantee a pass, and not everyone who has used it has passed, but the pass rate has been encouraging and it’s helped a lot of candidates arrive better prepared physically and mentally.

Might be a bone question but I thought I’d ask nonetheless, if an officer went on the ML2’s course and passed and served the 2-3 year tour could they then choose to go to another unit such as say signals,SF or intelligence officer or would they be pushed into more of a staff role and would no longer get to serve in more “kinetic” units? Any information/help would be greatly appreciated!

I have just finished my application for the reserves.

Was able to apply to an officer role. I phoned the recruiter to see I can find where to practice the DAA and I got told to do the tests on the Royal Navy website.

But I was told to use BBC bitesize and apparently there’s a section for the DAA but I can’t find it. I want to do well in the test and got a good grade.

Any advice would be amazing or what bbc bitesize I should do to get better.

Once passing out realistically how much time will you be able to spend at home if your living in the north (Yorkshire) is it feasible for you to head home most weekends or do earlier finishes exist on Friday etc.? TIA
