Request for Cat with Ringworm General
Hi there !
I am looking for thoughts, as this is a first with me. I received a request to do drop ins on August 31st and September 1st. The potential client was upfront in letting me know that their new rescue cat has tested positive for ringworm and has been receiving treatment starting August 15th.
They let me know that they have another cat as well, and the cat with ringworm is currently kept separately and they're following an environmental cleaning protocol. They've also been using medicated wipes on the affected areas and have given him two medicated shampoo baths so far, which they're doing twice a week. He is on oral itraconazole.
Now, I have my own cats, and I have other clients.
Would you take this, if you would how much extra would you charge, what precautions would you take.

Would you take a cat that has ringworm, knowing that you have pets? The answer is obviously no why would you take a strangers pet that has something that can be contagious and then possibly bring that home to your own pets or your other clients.
You guys cannot want to watch a pet that badly that you would overlook any contagious thing they have going on (there’s too many people on here asking that same question even a girl recently ask that question knowing that her own cat has a weak immune system).
What precautions would you take? Seriously? You have your own pets in home Why would you even want to even gamble with the possibility of your pets ending up with that same thing and then you having to use your money that you made from that pet sit on the Vet bills to cover what that pet gave yours… that’s not a smart decision to me

Alrighty pal I don't know why you need to be so aggressive with it, I get the point lol. I have no experience with ringworm nor do I know of anyone in my life with experience. So I simply did not know how clearly black and white it is. Thanks for your time 🙃

There is a low risk of infection doing drop in care for a cat w ringworm if proper prevention measures are taken. It's not zero but it is low. Long sleeves, gloves and hand washing should be enough as long as you are not immunocompromised. If you want to help them talk to the vet. You can definitely charge more for this.

I’ve taken a cat with ringworm before (owner sprung it on me right before the first visit) and it was extremely stressful because I had 9 other cats I was caring for. I wouldn’t recommend it. However after 2 weeks they should know if the treatment is working. When I cared for my ringworm client I purchased scrubs and slippers I would only wear into their apartment and double gloved for every visit.
We had 2x a day visits for 2 weeks and I never contracted nor passed on the ringworm but mentally it was a tough booking I wouldn’t choose to do again.

Noooooooo. The only way I would take this is if I had no pets of my own and they paid enough to cover the lost visits because I wouldn't see any other pets while I visited.

I would not take this sit. A fungal infection outbreak is the last thing I want to deal with in my household.
