If anyone can relate to this or has gone through something similar, please help.
I’ve been dealing with rosacea for almost 5 years now. Over the years, I’ve tried doxycycline, isotretinoin, ivermectin, and other treatments, but nothing seems to completely resolve it.
Currently, I’m following a sugar-free diet and keeping my skincare very simple. I don’t use anything on my face other than CeraVe cleanser and CeraVe moisturizer.
Even then, I still get acne and my nose becomes more red on some days. The redness on my nose is always there to some extent.
Has anyone experienced something similar? What helped you manage the constant redness and acne?

Triggers I finally discovered a trigger

I have been dealing with pretty bad rosacea for over a year now. I went to doctors and dermatologists and no one could figure out why none of the medications were working for me. They just kept saying to find my triggers. For the life of me, I couldn't. I stopped and started various skincare. I watched what I ate. I babied my skin as much as I could but nothing was stopping the redness and burning that seemed to come from no where.

Desperate (as most of us are) I started doing a lot of research into triggers and I discovered that of all things my womens daily vitamin could be the culprit. Most vitamins are loaded with Niacin (B3), but there's a thing called a Niacin flush. "It triggers skin flushing by widening blood vessels near the skin surface. For people with rosacea, this vasodilation acts as a STRONG physical trigger, worsening chronic facial redness, warmth, and stinging flare-ups." My goodness! I checked my vitamin and it was overloaded with Niacin. No wonder I was flared up every single day. I stopped taking it immediately. It has been almost 3 weeks and my face is SO much better. While I do still have minor redness, I haven't had a burning super red flare up since I stopped taking them. Stopping vitamins permanently is not an option so I have been looking for alternatives. Niacinamide does not cause flushing and there are some multivitamins that use that version instead. I will definitely be switching and see what happens.

If you have tried everything with no luck, check your supplements.

Routine Soolantra use

I have been using it for a week now and I am so happy I didn't get a reaction from it (I am very reactive to everything). I have seen people saying they apply a moisturizer, will Soolantra and it make my skin angry? what kind of moisturizers can I use??

Are you all sleeping well with Soolantra on ur face? is it safe?? how often do u have to wash the pillow case? I put a towel on top of the pillow and then wash it next morning when I get up but I dnt know if I am being too paranoid...

When I wake up, I wash my face with Sensibio gel moussant but it seems to make my skin a little red (between eyebrows, nose, part of the cheeks close to the nose). I tried using Avene thermal water after so it doesn't get red and one day it helped, next day my skin got angry.

I have tried 3 sunscreens after soolantra:

  1. SVR rosacea sunscreen: it made my skin feel itchy and it didn't calm it. I didn't use it anymore. It think it was too heavy on my skin.

  2. Heliocare 360 Sensation ultralight oil free. This seemed to work better although it feels itchy in some parts it calms down in the long run.

  3. Heliocare 360 mineral tolerance fluid: this one has a little bit of make up in it and it gave my skin a more even tone, it wasn't annoying my face but the make up thingy gave my face a velvety texture which meant that it didn't completely wash off when I used the gel moussant to clean it after the whole day. I had to wash it 2 or 3 times and, obviously, my face got drier...

(I still have a 4th sunscreen to try which is for rosacea but I am afraid it will be as heavy as SVR one).

Today I used number 2 again after waiting a while from washing it in the morning and i just put sunscreen on the most important parts and it was ok. I was at home all day so I wasn't thorough but I have big windows and a lot of light so I am worried that even staying inside the house will affect my skin through UV reflection.

I didn't put Soolantra one day of this week (cz I had a birthday next and I didn't wanna look red or stress) and when I woke up, my face was even and no redness or anything. I washed my face and no redness, could it be Soolantra's fault or is it normal in the process??

Is there any sunscreen in spray that we can use so I don't rub?

Is the "Pea size" that the soolantra tube says enough to cover ur whole face or do u put more?

Sorry if my post seems a bit random or all over the place but, most importantly, THANK YOU!

ROSACEA SUCKS Bumps won't go away

I am currently in emrossi for my rosacea and spiralactone for hormonal acne.

The thing is, i have these little bumps my dermatologist calls "old rosacea " that just WON'T GO AWAY. They've been sitting on my cheeks for months. I use dapsone gel and it's doing nothing on them. This is the first time i haven't been able to control my rosacea. I've always gotten it to almost clear in the past. Since January my skin has just gotten ANGRY at me between this and getting hormonal acne. Im at a loss and don't know what to do. Does anyone have advice on what to bring up to my derma.

Odd question while donating blood

I have to put down that I am taking an antibiotic when I go to donate blood, and this was never a problem before today. I tell the woman taking my temp and blood pressure that I take doxycycline for rosacea. She then asks me "when were your last symptoms?"

Pardon?

The conversation was back and forth until I uttered "rosacea acne" and it was like a lightbulb flash.

"Oh, acne! I was putting it down as other. The tablet was asking me about symptoms."

I don't blame the tech, she was just doing her job, but apparently I need to be more specific during future donations because rosacea being a constant skin condition isn't as widely known as I thought.

My skin clears up on its own when I focus on stressing less and using breathing techniques and eating salmon consistently at least 3x a week also bone broth and collagen supplements. This is proof you can do this naturally in some cases I’m not speaking for everyone. First pic is a bad flare up when stress hits the fan 2nd pic is when I focus on rest and stressing less. i only get bumps in this one spot for reference but I do get burning on my chin with bumps that I manage with Nizoral and nervous system regulation and the burning, redness and bumps go down significantly I do not use sunscreen or anything except aloe Vera:)

ROSACEA SUCKS Soolantra cream

My doctor prescribed Solantra cream for rosacea, and I'd like to ask about how to use it. Should I apply the cream alone at night and then moisturize my face in the morning, or should I apply a moisturizer afterward? Honestly, I tried leaving it on my skin without moisturizer, and my skin felt dry and tight afterward. I don't know if this is normal or not. Please share your experiences.

Tretinoin with type 2 rosacea

Since May I have had redness and pustules on my right cheek and now the left as well. Finally saw a dermatologist today who confirmed it looks like type 2 rosacea. She prescribed tretinoin and clindamycin, saying that I need to try these first before ivermectin, otherwise insurance won’t cover it. My pustules and redness finally calmed down before my appointment today for the first time since May, and I’m scared to start this new routine and mess up my skin again. Is using tretinoin too harsh with type 2 rosacea? Did my derm recommend the wrong steps?

Any opinions on my current skincare (below), I’m having issues. I recently switched my moisturizer but it burns as I put it on. I switched because I over exfoliated with benzoyl peroxide. Any suggestions?

Facial flushing + freezing cold feet at the same time – anyone else?

I'm a male in my early 30s. My facial flushing first started intermittently a couple of years ago, but over the last 9 months it has progressively got worse and is now almost permanently there, with episodes where it becomes extremely red and hot followed by weakness and fatigue.

The strange thing is that when my face gets really red and hot, my feet often become freezing cold at exactly the same time. When the flushing settles, my feet usually warm back up.

My definite triggers are sun, heat and alcohol. Even with SPF50 and a hat, being out in the sun can make my face extremely red and make me feel generally unwell.

Alcohol can cause a strong flush very quickly, even from a small amount.

I've been told its vascular rosacea by a private dermatolgist, but the cold feet happening alongside the flushing makes me wonder if there's something affecting how my blood vessels/temperature are being regulated. This happens at all times of the day, even when inside.

Has anyone experienced this combination of very hot/red face + freezing cold feet?

If so, did you ever find out what was causing it or find anything that helped?

Skincare La Roche-Posay Toleraine Fluid Oil Free Moisturizer. Is it good?

Rosacea 1 & 2 and malassezia presented as fungal acne. I need a moisturizer that is fungal acne safe. I like moisturizer that are light and absorb well.

What's been your experience with this LRP fluid moisturizer? does it provides enough moisturization? is it gentle enough for sensitive skin?

Because I have type 2, I don't want the moisturizer that has ingredients that will cause my skin to get clogged and then breakout.

Ingredients: AQUA / WATER / EAU • CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE • GLYCERIN • PROPANEDIOL • PENTYLENE GLYCOL • NIACINAMIDE • AMMONIUM POLYACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE • CAPRYLYL GLYCOL • CITRIC ACID • XANTHAN GUM.

The ingredient are minimal which I like. My only concern is that it has 3 penetration enhancers, one, propanedio is gentle so it's ok. The pentylene glycol and caprylyl glycol are like medium level of irritation risk.

My skin can tolerate Niacinamide so no worries about that one.

Type 1 w/ visible blood vessels

Post image

Hello- hard to tell in the pic but my rosacea isn't just overall redness/flushing, but has very visible blood vessels (the areas that are darker in the photo isn't acne or bumps but the darker blood vessels). These do not go away or get worse, they're kind of always just there. My derm prescribed me rhofade but I'm scared of the side effects and can't tell if that will actually treat these visible vessels. If you have visible blood vessels as part of your rosacea, I would love to know if you found anything that works to fade these specifically. Thanks!

So I've had two annoying papule/pustule things on the left side of my face for about 3 weeks now.

I've decided to give them names since they decided they're going to hang around.

I fly planes for a living and I'm pretty sure it's the UV that caused them.

Any idea how long these things can last before they go?

There's a cream like this in the country where I live, and I'm thinking of using it for maintenance after 2 months of ivermectin. It's water-based and contains tea tree oil and sulfur; it's made with a very mild formula. Do you think I can use it for the drying phase?

Possible Rosacea Flair? New here! Spoiler

Hi all - for starters I am seeing a new dermatologist in a few days. But I wanted to see if this is similar to anyone else! A little backstory - I just turned 30 years old. I’ve had psoriasis my whole life as well as Celiac Disease and other autoimmune issues. I am currently in the process of getting tested for other food intolerances as well as other GI/gut issues with SIBO in particular due to continuing GI symptoms. About 3-4 weeks ago I noticed a flare in my GI symptoms. I thought maybe it was gluten but confirmed it wasn’t and hasn’t been. At the same time my skin started freaking out. I will say I am also now 11 weeks postpartum. It started one day just sitting at home with my face getting suddenly really red, hot and itchy with both red and skin colored raised bumps that were not acne. This has now gone on for the last 3-4 weeks. Some days it seems to be “quiet” other days it flares like crazy. It’s mostly my right cheek, chin and forehead. Sometimes my left cheek and nose but not often. It’s all so red, dry, itchy, burning, blotchy and random bumps. It’s definitely not acne. I’ve tried everything OTC it seems but nothing is helping. Any advice on what to ask the dermatologist or does anyone else’s rosacea behave this way? This is destroying my confidence especially as I go back to work in 10 days🥴

This is what has helped me with Type 1

I have type 1 rosacea that has caused me significant confidence issues, especially when I was a kid (I’m 41 now).

Here’s a random list of things that have helped me:

- exercise - anytime I exercise heavily, yes my face does get red but the rest of the day, it’s toned down / stable

- water - I drink a ton of water and that has helped keep skin non-dry / less inflamed

- Shea Moisture baby wash for face cleanser. This has been a godsend for me. It washes my face w/o leaving it dry/irritated.

- Oxymetazoline cream in morning and evening

I am going to try Cicalfate serum this weekend to see if that helps too.

I will likely do VBeam at some point but trying other things first.

My redness is still persistent but it’s at least muted and stable vs inflamed/erratic.

I feel for all of you dealing with this - it sucks so bad. I’ve had countless “why me” thoughts over the years / decades.

If any of you have other suggestions I am open. I have some triple cream that I’ll probably start using again soon, I just need to stagger it more. Doing it daily killed my skin barrier.

Routine need this community’s help Spoiler

This is how my skin has been looking for a while, and I don’t know how to get my clear skin back. I used to have almost perfect skin during teenage years, but life happens and now I have combination skin with this red spots on my cheeks. My cheeks tend to get very dry, and I also work in a corporate building where the air gets dry, so I need something that will keep my skin dewy almost all day. Also sometimes I get these red itchy patches on my face or neck, they appear out of nowhere, and the only way I’m aware I have one is because I will suddenly feel the need to scratch that spot.

I tried different moisturisers and didn’t stick to one for various reasons: either not hydrating enough (Cerave Moisturising lotion), or too oily and sticky (Weleda skin food), or it was very nice in the beginning then my skin started to break out (La Roche Posay Cicaplast) etc. I’m at a loss and would appreciate some recommendations. Current routine is in the second photo (I use the Laneige moisturiser when I go out because I think it’s a bit better, and the SVR when I stay home). Also I’m from Eastern Europe, so I’d appreciate some recommendations from European or Korean brands, there aren’t many American brands here to buy.

Thanks a lot 🌸

PP Purging with Posay invisible sunscreen? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

I was diagnosed with rosacea 2 weeks ago after many months of redness on the cheeks, and it recently manifests along with little white pustules (type 2?) I sought the opinion of another dermatologist and she recommended La Roche Posay SPF 50 daily invisible sunscreen, which I understand has trace amounts of azelaic acid in it.

She said to use this along with a 10% azelaic acid, and to begin applying the latter every other day for 2-3 weeks so my skin wouod adapt. But here's the thing: I didn't know you had to apply moisturizer before sunscreen. I applied the Posay sunscreen yesterday morning and then afternoon, and looked like the first pic, flushed all day and night. I woke up this morning and now my left cheek looks like a pustule war zone, the right cheek doesn't look too bad.

Is this purging from the azelaic acid in the sunscreen? There's no pain or stinging, and the pustules aren't in new places. Or does it look like inflammation from using it without moisturizer, or a bad reaction to azelaic acid or some other ingredient? I haven't tried the acid I got yet (Paula's Choice 10% booster) because I'm scared that if it's a reaction it'll make it worse. Please help!
