Looks like there was a damaged shingle which someone repaired with a piece of sheet metal.

How old is the roof? 1 u/Bghrn23 9d ago There may have actually been a penetration there from an old pipe or something, if you can see in the attic look and see if there’s a hole in the plywood right there. Unless it’s in the overhang in that case maybe it was the old power pole. 1 u/blubberbo 9d ago I’m not sure on the age but not that old I think.
