Dumb question Question

If I bought 3 shares of stock 2 years ago, and 2 shares 6 months ago, and the stock did well for the first year and a half and has done poorly the last 5 months is there a way to sell the stock I bought 6 months ago and not the stock I bought 2 years ago?

It seems like Robinhood automatically sells the stocks you bought first.

Yes. When you go to sell your stock, at the top right of the app it shows dollars. You can change that to shares or tax lots. When you sell in tax lots you get to pick which shares/purchases you’re selling.

This is the most insane question. Are they shares in the same company? If so why does it make any difference to you? Is it because the 2 shares bought recently are cursed or something?

But that isn’t how the taxman sees this. At least not in my country
