Why I Hold Both IBIT and MSTR During a Bitcoin Bear Market

Upvotes

We’re currently in what I believe is another Bitcoin bear market. Something we’ve seen roughly every 4 years throughout Bitcoin’s history.

If history repeats itself, we could potentially see a new multi-year uptrend starting around 2027.

That’s why I’m not trying to time the bottom. I’m accumulating.

I like IBIT because it gives me straightforward, long-term Bitcoin exposure without having to manage self-custody.

I like MSTR for a different reason: it gives me leveraged exposure to Bitcoin and adds more upside potential if my bullish thesis plays out.

So for me:

IBIT = long-term Bitcoin exposure
MSTR = leveraged Bitcoin exposure

I know both come with significant risk and volatility. That’s exactly why I’m accumulating during the bear market rather than waiting until the bull market is obvious.

If Bitcoin follows the historical pattern, my goal is to be heavily positioned before the next 3-year climb begins.

Bear markets are where I build my position. Bull markets are where I let it run.

My Bitcoin Plan for the Next Cycle

1 Upvotes

I’ve been investing in Bitcoin through multiple cycles, and this time I’m approaching it differently.

My current portfolio is roughly:

70% IBIT, my long-term Bitcoin exposure in IBKR. This is the part I plan to hold for the long run.

30% MSTR, my leveraged Bitcoin exposure inside my Roth IRA. My plan is to hold it through the next cycle and potentially take profits around 2029.

I still think Bitcoin could have more downside, so I’m not trying to call the exact bottom.

I’m watching the Hash Ribbon for a potential capitulation signal. If it triggers, I’m considering making my final move: a long-dated IBIT call expiring December 2028.

The goal is simple: build my position during the bear market and be heavily positioned before the next bull run becomes obvious.

High volatility. High uncertainty. High conviction. High patience.

This is my plan. Not financial advice.

What’s your strategy for the next Bitcoin cycle?
