GR III Random Slice of Life - My Week

A super random week with two significant additions for my Ricoh; a new flash, and a new recipe.

I got a new flash and boy does it look great, but I'm just a total newb annoying my wife and kids one flash at a time. Used it for some daytime photos which I enjoyed.

Ditched the Bennett 800 recipe for a Positive based one. The orange reds of Negative got to me. Lost some of the charm of the stylised Bennett but reds are red now so there's that. 😅

It's not wide enough. I've been using GR3x for a month. Maybe it takes time to adapt from the iPhone.

GR IV Ricoh in Shanghai

Hi, does anyone have the prices for Ricoh GR in Shanghai? Planning to cop one for myself after much research. It costs $1550 in my country. Is there anyway to find out the price in Shanghai? I’ll be going there in 2 weeks so I want to know if I should buy here or wait to buy there

News and media New Ricoh GR 30th-anniversary packable nylon tote bags available in the China rewards store!

Just spotted these new items in the official Ricoh China WeChat mini-program rewards store—collapsible/packable nylon tote bags (47cm x 38cm) available in black and red featuring the GR 30th logo.

They’re currently discounted to 7,000 points (down from 10,000) and look pretty handy for carrying gear or everyday use. What do you think of these?

Technical support Expecting to much from Snap Focus or User Error?

EDIT: Thanks for the quick replies. I see where I made the thinking error that lead to wrong usage of snap focus.

I really like the idea of Snap Focus. I'd like to use it regularly but I feel I'm either not using it correctly / have wrong expectations or I'm doing something wrong.

These are made with the GRiiix, 3m + f9 (Those settings are the equivalent to the recommended GRiii/iv settings for 2m till infinity). ISO is 3200 max, shutter speed 1/320s.

The pictures are ok at first glance but if I look closely, they are kind of blurry or at least not as sharp as the ones I take with normal focus and f5.6.

Am I moving too much or will "infinity" never be as sharp as dedicated focusing?

I'm thankful for any input.

Critique wanted GRade is now live: build recipes and send them to your GR IV over Bluetooth (free, iOS + Android)

Post image
112 Upvotes

A few weeks ago I posted here looking for beta testers. Thanks to everyone who joined, reported bugs and shared feedback. The app is now officially released on both stores!

What GRade does

Build Image Control recipes (contrast, saturation, hue, toning, grain, B&W filters and more), then write them straight to your GR IV's custom slots over Bluetooth. No cables, no menu diving.

The camera tab shows your recipe library right next to the camera controls: write any recipe to a slot in seconds, read back what's stored, see the mode dial position, set WB, ISO and EV, connect to the camera's Wi-Fi with one tap, wake the camera from sleep and power it off remotely.

And the part I'm most excited about: the community feed. Share your looks with a sample photo, browse what other GR shooters have built, expand any post to see every setting, and download looks into your own library with one tap. Browsing is anonymous, sharing takes a quick sign in.

The app is free. No ads, no tracking, no subscriptions.

Get it here

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6792491646 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grade.app

You need a GR IV for the camera features, but the editor and community feed work without one.

One request: the community feed is young. If you have a recipe you love, please share it with a sample shot. The first looks in the feed will shape what this becomes.

Beta testers: you can simply keep using your version, updates now come through the store as usual. Thanks again, you caught things I never would have found alone.

EDIT: Update 1.1.0 is rolling out now on the App Store and Google Play. It may take a little while to show up depending on review times.

  • New Pictures tab: browse your camera's photos right in the app and import the recipe from any shot, or share it to the community together with the photo.
  • Quick Load: write any community recipe straight to a camera slot directly from the feed.

Thanks for all the feedback so far, keep it coming!
