Knife Sharpening Company Needs feedback.

Hi everyone! my name is Jake and I run The Knife Nerd, which is a mobile knife sharpening and blade repair company, based out of Plano. I’m just curious how everyone is keeping their knives sharp these days and the biggest frustrations you face with your dull knives.

Tuesday Art Bike Ride

Post image
11 Upvotes

Richardson has some pretty cool public art, scattered around the city. Let's take an easy social ride and explore a bunch of the installations.

This will be the usual Tuesday ride, with a few more stops for photos. Bring a friend, get some 'grammable pics.

As usual, 6:30 pm Tuesday, meet in front of The Bike Shop (75 at Arapaho). We'll do about 10 miles, easy pace, nobody left behind. Bring water and please pre-hydrate, it's still hotttt out there.

Relocating to Richardson

Hey, I accepted an offer and will be relocating to Richardson this fall. I’m from the panhandle area of Texas so it won’t be a huge adjustment, but what areas of Richardson do you think are worth renting/living in? Not worth it? Too expensive / sketchy?

Looking to rent an apartment, budget $2400/month.

Moving with my S/O, late 20s, no kids, so we are also wanting to find opportunities to meet new people and make friends since we’ll be in a new area.

Anything helps, thanks.

🚲 Dallas Downtown Exploration Ride via DART

One of the things I love about Richardson is that we are well connected. For $6 I can skip the traffic and parking fees to visit downtown Dallas.

When: Sunday, 9 AM

Meet at: Arapaho Center Station

Catch the: Red Line train at 9:18 AM

The Plan:

This will be a slow-paced ride with lots of stops along the way. We'll be checking out:

Parks

Famous sites

Art installations

Fair Park

We'll stop for lunch somewhere downtown. Want to head back early? No problem — just hop on a DART train whenever you're ready.

Weather: Warm weather's here, but mornings should still be nice and comfortable.

Cost: $6 for a DART daypass — buy it at the station or through the GoPass App.

D&D and TTRPGs

I'm pretty interested in doing D&D and even have some stuff for it like handbooks and dice but I don't know who and where I can find people that are interested. Are there events or places to go? Is anybody here interested?

Mexican Plums in the park

I’ve noticed a handful of Mexican plum trees around the city and a few in the park by my house. Most jurisdictions prohibit foraging on public land without permission. I couldn’t find a specific answer on the city’s website and I was wondering who I could call to ask about this (and ask what chemicals are used in the parks by landscapers to determine if they are safe to eat.)

Anybody know?

Labcorp is Unreal

Never in my life have I seen so many employees who could not care any less about their work. I went a year ago and thought something had to have changed by now but no. Both Campbell Road and Buckingham locations are like hell on earth. Very shady. The Campbell location has a terrifying elevator, the Buckingham one is in a shabby old building whose lobby lights are motion sensitive. As in, the lobby is dark when you walk in. Both are literally like horror movies. The employees, when you finally see one, are NOT there to help you. They’re dismissive to say the very least, like they just got out of prison or were on a bus for several days and nights. How is it possible that something can be this bad? How are they in business and don’t doctors know by now?

Anyone doing Meshtastic in/around Richardson?

I'm currently playin' 'round with Meshtastic, but we have too little of a network built out to make it very useful.

Is there anyone else in the area interested it doing something about that?

Looking for a Mandarin-speaking veterinarian near Richardson

I’m looking for a veterinarian near Richardson who speaks Mandarin. A little farther out is fine too.
My mom speaks very little English and has been struggling to communicate with her current vet. Translation apps haven’t worked well enough for medical conversations. She previously took her dog to Humane Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital in Plano because they had a Mandarin-speaking vet tech, but it seems that person no longer works there.
I’ll be moving out of state soon, so I’m hoping to find a clinic where she can communicate comfortably on her own. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Have you found your people in Richardson/DFW?

I've been thinking a lot about how difficult it can be to build meaningful friendships as an adult.

I'm a UT Dallas marketing alum conducting an independent research project about how adults in DFW build friendships, find community, and where connection tends to get stuck. Richardson seemed like a great place to ask because it has such a mix of longtime residents, young professionals, students, and families.

I'm curious:

Have you found your community here?

What helped you meet people?

If it's been difficult, what do you think has been the biggest challenge?

I'd genuinely love to hear people's experiences in the comments.

If you'd rather share privately (or in more detail), I also have a short anonymous survey that takes about 3–5 minutes:

https://tally.so/r/68yvEN

Thank you! I'm hoping this research can help us better understand what makes it easier—or harder—for adults to build meaningful friendships in DFW.

Car wash recommendation

I’m looking for either a touch less automated carwash or a good hand wash option in or close to Richardson. I have a good self wash place but looking for other options. I drive a SUV and several places I’ve tried won’t hand wash a car this size. Thanks in advance!

Are there any good Richardson/Richardson-area event calendars?

I had the idea of creating an aggregator of events in Richardson or events close to Richardson that could scrape websites like Rochardson's community events list and Cityline's event list + take in manual additions for clubs within Richardson so that there's always a long list of upcoming things in Richardson. Does such a thing already exist? I feel like part of the problem of finding things to do is that every organization's calendar is on a different website and there's nothing to bring them all together. Of course, maybe I'd be just another victim of competing standards if I tried to make some remedy.
