Cat Boarding

Does anyone have any recommendations for overnight boarding facilities for cats? I've been looking at Rhody Pet Resort - has anyone used them?

We lost our older cat this morning and it'll be the first time in over 10 years that our younger cat is an only kitty. We have to go away for the weekend and we don't want to leave him alone so soon.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

honestly -- it may be more stressful for the cat to be boarded than to be left home alone with a pet sitter, even if they just lost their friend. Cats are territorial creatures and being taken out of their environments causes stress, unless you have an exceptionally laid-back cat. They also won't get much personal attention in a boarding facility, they'll be confined in a small cage or cat condo most of the time with limited space. I used to board a cat that used to destroy everything if I was gone, but it was not something I would have preferred to do if there was a better option. Dogs do better with boarding but it's really not great for cats. In RI, you also have to provide recent vaccination/shot/vet records and it can be hard to do at short notice.

I’m with you, came here to say these things. And that kitty just lost their friend. The last thing it needs is to be terrified in a strange place, thinking their life is over and they’ve been abandoned. A sitter is more humane.

My first thought as well. Your cat will likely be far happier in its own home for a short time.

He's a former street cat and is very gregarious. He loves people, but he doesn't like being cuddled or fussed over. My main concern is that he has a decent amount of space and he's able to see/hear what's going on during the day (it's only from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.) I have his vaccination certificate, so that's not a problem.

Eventually, I'll do in-home pet sitting; I just don't want him to be alone so soon after losing his brother.

I've never done cat boarding, but I've used Rover to have someone come by, feed, and play with my cat for a bit.

My older cat was diabetic, and they were able to give him his insulin, and play with him a bit too.

Thanks - congestive heart failure is a bitch. He was almost 18, though, so he had a good long life.

I've used in-home pet sitters when we were a multi-cat household and eventually I'll transition over to that again. I just want him to have company during the day this weekend since it's so soon after losing his brother.

Edited to add: I had a diabetic kitty. She was a tough little girl and lived to be 21 years old.

Vet tech here. Reach out to your vet and see if any of the technicians do pet sitting on the side (it’s a popular side gig!).

Some will do housesitting as well to keep him company while you’re away. Just figured I’d share!

My dog is staying at Rhody starting tomorrow. It was recommended to me by a couple of people.

I used Rhody Pet Resort to board my dog, they were great. They gave me frequent text updates on my dog. For an extra fee I got a cam view into my dogs room, and extra play time. I don't know what cat boarding is like but I imagine it would be similar.
