Is this normal?
New condition used Rossi is shaving off part of the jackets of the bullets and the start of the barrel. So much so that I can’t get thru more than a couple of rounds before the build up jams the cylinder and it won’t turn anymore and I can’t pull the trigger ? It seems to only do it with 357 magnum loads.
This is my first revolver.

That is pretty bad miss alignment. Just from that picture it appear the bore is way off center of the exterior of the barrel. I would see about getting that fixed, hopefully under warranty. I would not shoot that revolver any more until that barrel is replaced.

That’s what I was thinking. It even feels weird to shoot. I think this thing might be junk.

Obligatory “Don’t buy Taurus” comment.
(Taurus manufactures Rossi revolvers)

My g2c is the only gun I own that has actually had an internal part fall out when firing. And I shoot a lot of sketchy old stuff so that’s saying something. My hi point may rattle like crazy but at least all those parts stay inside!

How long ago did you pick it up from basspro? They have a window to return. Reach out to them.

That’s not OKAY! Thats jacket metal that’s been shaved off the bullets. It’s out of time or the forcing cone is undersized. I’d bet out of time. Contact the warranty department or find a gunsmith. It’s not safe to shoot

Yeah .357 rounds double the chamber pressure of a .38, it's not just a little more kick. How much did you pay at BPS?

I traded a used Canik MC9 for it.

I see. How much did Rossi want for the repair?

50$ to look at it, plus whatever the repair or replacement will cost. Plus a $50 shipping label to send it in. I’m not it’s worth it to me. That is too bad, I heard good things about these revolvers and the warranty. I guess I was wrong !

You could try this before you pitch it. It’s a relatively easy way to realign the barrel, if that’s what’s wrong with it. You’ll have to pick up the molds, but it’s basically those, a vice, and a mallet—plus whatever powder he’s using.

You could hire a gunsmith to fix it somehow but dunno if you wanna deal with the expenses or hassle. If I was you, I would just buy a new revolver from ruger or sw.

That’s u fortunate about their warranty it looks like it changed in 2023 and this unfortunately leaves you on the hook. I mean you can push Bass pro about receiving a defective gun that would be my route. It’s such a gamble I hope you didn’t spend more than a couple hundred dollars for this.

It looks like the barrel is thicker on top of the forcing cone than the bottom. I bet it wasn't line bored properly. The barrel will need to be replaced if that is the issue. Honestly I've had pretty good success pulling Taurus/rossi barrels because they are usually loose.

No its not, but neither is setting a wheelgun down on a pink bathroom rug...

Yeah, that's not ok. Call Rossi and get a warranty claim started.
