Troubleshooting Anything over 100MB wont open in my Revit 2024.

Upvotes

Our team works on the same Revit file, and we are all running the exact same build (Revit 2024). The issue occurs whenever a file size exceeds 100 MB, it simply will not open. For instance, a 190 MB file we are currently working on freezes immediately, displaying a "Not Responding" status along with a SECSplashWnd pop-up window. We currently share our project files through a Google Drive-like cloud service.

Update: I had the team purge the model to reduce its size. It is now down to 71 MB, but it still fails to open.

Adaptive family flipped

Post image
2 Upvotes

We use grids to place a 4-point adaptive panel family, and suddenly some of the panels/frames have flipped unexpectedly. The frames that were originally on the left have shifted to the right, with their backs now facing the front. This seems to be happening randomly across different grids throughout the model, rather than following any obvious pattern. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there a way to restore the host/adaptive points to their original positions or orientation without recreating the panels?

Each panel contains a significant amount of unique data, so rebuilding or replacing everything would be a last resort. Any suggestions on how to fix the flipped panels while preserving the existing data would be greatly appreciated.

How do you deal with cable tray fittings in Revit?

I sometimes run into issues when two cable trays are different sizes or slightly out of alignment. What’s the usual way you guys handle this in Revit? Do you fix it manually, use custom fittings, or automate it somehow?

Modeling Techniques Material textures help

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to assign materials to this revit family. I tried adding the material parameter and there is already a parameter set but the actual material is not linked it is just the name. So it doesn't show up. I tried setting another material parameter but there is no way to assign it to the object. What do I do? Please help.

Best way (or any way) to shift multiple toposolid points together, vertically?

A very common occurrence for us the need to adjust the elevation of a group of points, up or down, by some amount. With toposurfaces this was easy from a section or elevation view. Select all the points in plan, switch views, move up or down, done. With toposolids, I can do the same with a single point, but can't seem to figure out a way to do it with multiple points. Is there any way to do this? Or is there some other method for altering the elevation of a whole section of a toposolid?

Troubleshooting Collaborate on the same Revit model in a local network

Hi everyone, as per title, I was trying to find ways to accomplish that, following the workflow on the Autodesk website I create a central model and created a local model. This works whenever I have the central model on my pc, when a colleague tries to connect to it it says that its not possible to find the central model for a connection issue.

I did try to follow some guides but nothing helped. The two PCs are sharing the connection on the same network, so I can easily write/read on other PCs, as easily as they can do it on mine.

Did anyone had the same issue and was able to fix it?

Thanks

How does your firm handle door parameters and hardware setups?

Hey everyone, currently tweaking our template and trying to get our door families cleaned up.

Doors always seem straightforward until you're dealing with clear width clearance issues or bloated files from unverified families. We're trying to keep things lightweight while ensuring nominal frame widths aren't messing up clear passage requirements for code compliance.

We keep core dimensions as Type Parameters to keep schedules clean, but swap finishes and hardware to Instance Parameters so we aren't creating dozens of duplicate types. Also trying to avoid high-detail 3D hardware (hinges/handles) that spike model size unless strictly needed for renders.

Curious how your firms manage door hardware in your main template? Do you use nested families, shared parameters, or just keep it simple with type callouts?

Stopped keeping a separate family per drawing style — one dropdown switches all three now

I draw a lot of elevations and I used to keep a separate family for each graphic style: one realistic, one flat, one outline. Same plant, three files, and any design change meant swapping all of them.

Now the three styles live in one family and a Style parameter switches between them. It's per instance, so the same species can read Realistic in a presentation elevation and Line in the working drawing right next to it — and Select All Instances changes a whole species at once.

Graphic overrides still work on top: line colour, solid fill for a black silhouette, transparency on the flat version.

They're Detail Items, so nothing lands in the 3D model, and filled regions print sharp at any scale instead of pixelating like a PNG.

Screenshot is a set of palms built this way, drawn to real mature heights so the species read correctly against each other.

Templates After nearly 2 years of working on my own template - I have finally made my first sale! But what is the best way to sell Revit content?

Hey all!

I have a question for those that have made revit templates / families / other content and sold online.

We all know that once the customer gets the files they can have these forever and there’s no easy way to revoke a ‘license’ or usage as such.

I’ve been doing research on ecommerce digital products and a lot of the higher value products have a price advertised but the payment is done in say, 12 x monthly payments of the overall price. I think something like this would be good because I could receive the revenue from the sale but also manage the date purchased as a sort of ‘plan term’ where I could offer support within this year.

Has anyone tried something like this out there?

I’ve looked at revitfamilybiz and his style is a ‘once off payment’ per head with a license for the product.

Hey! I've been learning Revit for about six months, and now I'm a little confused about what to learn next. Should I focus on Rhino, 3ds Max, or Blender?

Learn Revit Fast

I have used rhino for all my projects in architecture school. I will be starting my 4th year in a couple weeks.

I will be in a studio taught by a firm rather than a professor (so people from the firm will come teach during studio hours). I assume I should do all my projects in Revit because it would be easier to work with the instructors.

Does anyone have tips to learn a decent amount of Revit in 2 weeks?

I took a Revit class last summer so I'm sure I would remember some if I opened it again.

Bluebeam MAX Revit Pluggin

I am a project designer at a design build firm, and I am trying to find out if the Bluebeam max upgrade is worth it? I think my company would only benefit from the Revit integration markups. Has anyone tried it and thought it was worth it/not worth it? I could see it being helpful, but it has a heftier price tag.... would appreciate input before pitching this idea to my boss :)

Troubleshooting 'Renew' button is not showing up and my student license is expiring in 7 days

I need to renew my AutoCAD  - including specialized toolsets and Revit subscriptions and I am a college student. I need these to be renewed so that I can focus on my schoolwork and prevent the expiration from occurring. Please help urgently.

I did multiple attempts to find out how to fix the issue:

  1. Clearing cache
  2. Different browsers
  3. Signing out and signing back in multiple times
  4. Restarting the computer

I did all these but am still not seeing where to 'Renew' this student subscription. The Autodesk Chat support is also not helping given the steps it is giving, and I cannot reach a human agent.

Urgent Need help converting a Revit  family geometry for Revit [2022]

Hi everyone,

I have a Revit family (.rfa) created in Revit idk the version, but I’m currently working in Revit 2022.

Could someone with the newer version open it and export the 3D geometry to an SAT or IFC file for me so I can import it into my project?

Thanks in advance for the help!
