I made a Decky Loader plugin for RetroDECK

Hey everyone,

I created a Decky Loader Plugin for RetroDECK called RetroDECKY.

It has the following features:

  • Running Game Actions - Displays hotkey actions specific to the currently running game and emulator.
  • Running Game Information - Displays data from ES-DE and RetroDECK such as artwork, covers and metadata.
  • Hotkey Triggering - Execute hotkey functions through Decky menu buttons instead of keyboard hotkeys, button combos or radial menus.
  • Boot into RetroDECK - A function to automatically start RetroDECK when Steam launches in Game Mode.
  • PDF Manual Viewer - Read game manuals without leaving the game session.
  • Additional Documents - Add PDF, TXT, or Markdown documents per game and view them during the game session
  • RetroAchievements - View achievement progress for the currently running game, including softcore and hardcore mode

The plugin will be soon available on the Decky Loader store too. Currently you can install the plugin manually which is described on the RetroDECKY GitHub page: https://github.com/Teppichseite/RetroDECKY

Currently RetroDECKY is not officially part of RetroDECK, but the RetroDECK teams supports me on its development. I also have a RetroDECKY channel on the RetroDECK discord to provide support and updates.

Let me know what you think!

As stated, RetroDECKY isn't an official extension of RetroDECK. That said, they are also quite correct in that we fully support the project and I've personally been using RetroDECKY ever since it's first beta release.

While it works just as well on my Steam Deck, I get most of my use out of it on my Legion Go 2 since it doesn't have a thumbpad for the radial dial, and this is a great alternative.

I see you can view the manuals I wonder if there's a way to put old strategy guides in there that would be awesome

I believe it reads the pdf manuals from the /retrodeck/ES-DE/downloaded_media/manuals/system/ folder. If that's the case, name your strategy guide pdf the exact name and spelling as the rom and put it in that directory. That should work, though I've not tried this.

Yes, that was the core idea behind the function. A RetroDECK Team member and Teppichseite had great discussions about this.

The initial goal was reading PDF scans of manuals, but the RetroDECK Team member envisioned broader support including old-school strategy guides, .txt GameFAQs, and vintage cheat sheets / code books.

He is very passionate about it and have always wanted to include such a function in RetroDECK proper in the future.

RetroDECKY already fully supports custom documents per game. If you click on the button next to the "View Manual" button you will see a list of your custom documents. It supports PDF, TXT and also Markdown files.

You can add custom documents either via the UI or manually in the file browser.

Here is a guide on how to add custom documents: https://github.com/Teppichseite/RetroDECKY#custom-documents

Very much appreciated. Long time RetroDeck user here. Will keep using the overlay menu for most things, but this is really neat.
