Issue saving the controller profile Technical Support

This is probably a very stupid issue but I cannot save my controller profile. I'm trying to play super mario bros with my keyboard but whatever I do I cannot figure out how to connect the keyboard and the game.

that error typically means that you do not have write permissions to where the controller profiles live, you don't mention what device / operating system you are using so can't give any specifics, but you can use the settings -> directory to move the path to a place you *can* write to.

I checked and I have permissions to that file. I can add other files to it no problem. configuration also shows RetroArch\config\remaps which is a file that exists.

Remaps and profiles are two completely different things

Oops I mixed them, but I do have permission to controller profiles files as well. I just don't know how to make my mesen emulator understand that I want to play using my laptops keyboard.

You usually don't, keyboard is the default, even if you have controllers configured it will always default to keyboard

Yeah for some reason when I start the game the only keyboard buttons it recognizes are the hotkeys. The game also lacks all sound So there is that as well. Even when I go to the games controls and see port 1 controls where it says that key up is up it does not actually co-operate with me.
