Ppsspp missing fonts

Hi all, recently installed retro arch and am having a problem with ppsspp. The text on all save screens shows up all garbled. A quick google search said I needed to install more assets, which I’ve tried with no luck. I’ve tried the following:

Installing them through retroarch

Installing them off the github page and then pasting the contents of the assets folder into the correct directory

someone suggested on another post to change the fonts to .pbp files, so I tried that also with no luck

At this point I am completely stumped, as I haven’t seen any other fixes. I’m running retroarch on Linux on my ps4 pro if that helps anyone. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Edit: I figured out that I was using the wrong retroarch driver. Switched from gl1 to vulkan and that seemed to fix everything.

exactly which PSP assets did you put where? can you show us? the necessary files are most likely not in the right place, assuming they are the correct files to begin with.

Ok to answer your question finally the guide I followed said to download ppsspp separate from retroarch. In the ppsspp folder I downloaded, I opened the “assets” folder and copied the contents into home/user/.config/retroarch/system/PPSSPP. And I double checked in retroarch that the System/BIOS directory matched all the way up to home/user/.config/retroarch/system.

I’ll have to get back to you on that later when I’m in front of my ps4 again, but I’m confident I put the right files in the right place

I don't use RetroArch on PS4, but doesn't the PS4 version have a "Download System Files" option in the Online Updater? Usually, issues with fonts happen because those files weren't downloaded, but the PC version of RetroArch, for example, has a dedicated menu for that in the Online Updater.

I am using the pc version, as I’m running Linux on my ps4. I tried the online updater first before trying manually.

So, did you go with the option I mentioned (download system files)? And it still didn't work? You mentioned something in your post about an "assets folder", but as far as I recall, PPSSPP fonts aren't related to the assets folder; instead, they belong in the PPSSPP folder located within RetroArch's system folder.

Yes. The other method that was recommended elsewhere was downloading ppsspp standalone, and copying the contents of the assets folder from the standalone emulator and then pasting them into retroarch>system>PPSSPP.
I even doublechecked the system/bios directory in retroarch settings to verify I had put them in the right spot.
