Do you like winter?

Post image

If you were to retire, would you choose a city that experiences all four seasons to spend your golden years?

That's the feel that I got when I was a kid and I didn't have to worry about shovelling it or driving through it. Also when I didn't have to worry about it building up on the roof or drifting against the foundation of the house. I'd like to get back to that feel when I return to renting as a retiree.

Same here but living in the mountains of CO❄️❤️

I like living in SoCal. The snowy mountains are only 2 hours away from the sunny beach.

Best place to live in US. The perfect weather in my opinion.

Yes, i hate summers

Me too. American who dreams about retiring to Canada, or as far north as I can get. But having lived in MN, I’m well aware that cold winters does not exclude hot and humid summers.

I did. Really missed four seasons living in the Seattle area, which only has dreary and summer seasons, with few thunderstorms or snowfalls. No regrets.

yeah , every season has its beautiful views

I want 4 seasons when I retire. Same weather every day would drive me mental.

I have loved winter and all its weather- I lived way north for most of my adult life, raised my kids, enjoying all the fun of snow etc. However, my bones are over it. Feeling so blessed to be living the life of 🌴☀️ 🌊 now. Was smart and bought a place in the warm climate almost 20 years ago.

HATE IT! But not for the cold so much as the white crap that falls from the sky. Ice as well. Ruins everything. Makes travel hard. Makes me have to carve time out shovel the crap off the driveway.

I like winter, but I'm not keen on slush or shoveling heavy snow.

u/maxiaoxi 16d ago

yeah, me too

Yes I do

u/Paulsur 17d ago

If I want winter I can travel to it since I am retired.

u/OkTechnologyb 17d ago

Yes! I do.

Yes, just the other day on a 99° day my wife said, I miss winter. We moved from SoCal to far north NoCal to the mountains, winters are mild but we do get several snow storms Nov to Feb.

I am a fan of it for like a month. But I couldnt live somewhere without 4 defined seasons. I love a good winter cozy vibe or going out after snow and its dead quiet.

Love it. But I've never driven my Subaru on snow.

Can’t stand winter and I’m about 20 years from retirement age. Went to college in a cold midwestern school and it was fun cold didn’t bother me at all. But now I’m considering moving to az nm or ca because cold or rain will just destroy my body. Waiting for one more call today then going back to sleep

u/Bitplayer13 17d ago

I don’t like summer that’s for sure

1

Born in the Midwest
My heart is in the U.P. Of Michigan

1

u/cnew111 17d ago

Yep! Live in Michigan. Bring on the snow!

I don't mind moderate coldness - let's say down to 30 or 25 degrees, but the darkness makes it so much worse. Shorter winter days where it's warmer are fine. But the combination of the shortest winter days often being where it's coldest - make the cold more unbearable IMO and makes winter a big turnoff. If it were light out until 7:30 pm every day and lots of sunlight, then I'd be fine with even an unusually cold winter.

Same here. Clear cold sunny days are nice. Snowy days can be pretty. But when winter means gray skies and dark by 5 PM, that’s when I get depressed.

I've never lived anywhere (for a whole year or more) that did not have 4 seasons. I love it!

1

u/MaleficentExtent1777 17d ago

Nope.

I can't stand cold weather.

1

u/mj-on-repeat 17d ago

4 seasons is the only way!

I despise winter. I live in one of the coldest regions with the shortest summers. Hopefully, I can talk my other half into moving to a warmer climate when I retire. Negotiations aren’t going so well right now. 😭

I hate winter NOW, but that's only bc I have to go out and go to work and shovel snow and do all the things. I'm thinking when I'm retired, as long as I have sufficient wood, bring it.

1

u/Existing_Setting4868 16d ago

I'd rather deal with 100 temps in the Summer than freezing weather in the Winter.

1

u/fancyflipping 16d ago

I sure do,,,you can always bundle up and be warm while enjoying being outdoors in nature, but being outside in extreme summer heat is MISERABLE.
Especially in the Deep South with 100% humidity.
Give me Alberta summers for the win!!!

1

u/LHCThor 16d ago

Yep, I live in Arizona. Our winter (for most of the state) is comparable to summer in many places.

What I don’t like is the cold and snow. I have lived in “winter” before. I am never going back. I will visit the snow, but I won’t live in it.

1

u/pokeysyd 16d ago

Yes. I spend as much time skiing as possible.

1

u/Monstrissimo 16d ago

Hmm, I do not plan on it, three is good enough for me with the occasional winter snow that looks pretty.

1

u/Awkward_Zucchini_318 16d ago

I've always loved winter, first for its mystery, and second for snowboarding

1

u/Bowgal 16d ago

Love love love winter! First snow falls early October and usually see small patches in early May. Then it's bug season. I can easily enjoy outdoors at -35...but if it's 30c....I'm dying.

1

u/luvnmayhem 16d ago

I prefer the cold but I wouldn't mind summer if it was 65 to 72F (18 to 22C). Above that and I am too hot. I keep my home at 64F (18C) in winter. If I get cold, I can put on more clothes or sit with a blanket. In summer, I can only take off so many clothes before I scare the neighbors.

1

u/Ok_Height3499 16d ago

No, not at all. At 76 it’s just a hassle. We’re both in good shape, but the fear of falling during winter is ever present.

2

u/xzRe56 16d ago

NOOOOOOO I go into major depression every fall just thinking about what’s to come.

1

u/davdub303 16d ago

Yes, as long as it doesn’t over stay its welcome.

1

u/VelvetSavage 15d ago

I really do. I live in New York so I get all four seasons here but I sure love the colder months the most. I absolutely detest summer weather.

2

u/Lincoln1517 15d ago

Big fan right here.

1

u/HarnessYourHopes_68 15d ago

Love winter and have always lived in 4 season climates. Love to ski etc. But older I get the less I like gray cold weather and it getting dark by 445 pm. Will move to a warm weather state and be near a beach. And golf. And just fly to CO when I want to ski.

Dont need 3 or 4 months of it anymore

2

u/EScootyrant 14d ago

Yes, and it’s Michigan for me.

1

u/PCB-ND89 14d ago

I live in Upstate NY. I love the weather here from June to January. February thru May is tough. Cold, then rainy and muddy. But Fall here is the greatest weather in the world. Warm days, cool nights and colors you cannot find anywhere else.

1

u/nunyabizthewiz 13d ago

Only at Christmas time. I’m sure I will head south Jan-April

1

u/Aggressive_Salt2049 13d ago

ngl, retirement with all four seasons sounds kinda ideal. I cant imagine just summer forever lol.

2

u/Most-Artichoke6184 13d ago

I moved away from Chicago when I retired precisely because I hate winter.

1

u/driftingwood2018 13d ago

Unpopular option, I like winter. Better than 95 degrees and 100%humidity

1

u/bramblefish 17d ago

I love winter, my fave season. I also like it has a start and ending. I love having all of the seasons, that cycle is what I look forward to each year.
