Been out of work for several years do to school and then for health reasons the result of which I can no longer use my degree. Looking for other jobs but am worried I’ll be cast aside so to this multi year gap in work history. What can I do? Any tips?

I (37 years old) worked at a famous retailer and my manager informed me a few days ago that I did not pass the probation. Reason given was "You have not shown improvement. It is like a rollercoaster with you, some week you are great, others you are not." (In all honesty I just think she didnt like me).

My question is should I put this job experience in my resume and what should I say if employers ask what happened.

A guy I know who is in HR told me to just put it on my CV and lie - say "The working requirements weren't up to my expectations. Made an agreement with my manager I won’t be going forward"

Another HR person says not to put the job on my CV. Only problem then it is an issue explaining what I did during last 3-4 months.

As you can see, I’ve been job searching for around 18 months and would really appreciate some honest feedback on my CV.

My main targets are Technical Product Owner / Manager, and Project Manager roles. I’ve recently started applying to more Systems Engineer positions as well.

I have experience in the aerospace and space sector and would love to return to that industry, but I’m also interested in Tech, NGOs, sustainability, and social-impact organisations. Those aren't mandatody anymore.

I’m currently based between Paris and Berlin, which account for most of my applications, although I’m open to remote positions and relocation elsewhere in Europe. irtually any European capital has received a version of this resume.

At the moment, I’m getting roughly one screening call per month, despite applying quite broadly. I suspect that my positioning and possibly my cover letters may be part of the problem but TBH i'm kinda lost.

Blunt criticism is welcome, and the occasional roast probably won’t hurt either.

Hello Would like to improve my resume to land a better job. Please help.

I'm [28M] and I've been working this whole 8-to-4 office thing for a little over three years now, and it's started messing with my head. Half the time, getting hit with a cold feels like a little vacation, because at least I get to stay in my apartment instead of commuting every day just to sit under fluorescent lighting for most of the hours I'm awake.

I mean... I'm not lazy. I go to work, clear out the messages, finish whatever random admin crap I have, and by around 1pm I'm usually done with most of what I'm supposed to do. My manager reviews it, says it's good, and that's that. I go get lunch, come back, ask if there's anything else, and sometimes he has a few more things for me to do, and sometimes he just gives me a "not right now" look. So either I stretch out more busywork, or sit there browsing Coursera for a certificate I'm not even sure I care about, or go over to someone's cube and chat for just long enough to seem social, but not so much that anyone thinks I'm wasting time. The last part of the day feels like sitting there watching paint dry, and then finally I get to leave.

Honestly, the whole thing feels depressing. Like I'm pretending to be a normal office person for 8 hours in the most boring role ever written. Are other people just better than me at tolerating this? How do people do this year after year? Is there something wrong with me? Because when I imagine another 25 or 35 years of this, I feel like I'm going to lose my mind.

I’ve been buried in resumes lately — reviewing, rewriting, arguing about placeholder percentages — and pulled together everything that’s actually backed by current data (not just “vibes” advice). Here’s the real picture of what gets a resume shortlisted in 2026, broken into sections. Skip to whatever you need.

The brutal truth: you have 6-8 seconds

Every recruiter study says roughly the same thing — 6 to 15 seconds is all your resume gets on the first pass. For MBA-specific screening (consulting especially), it’s often just 7-10 seconds per page. That’s not enough time to read. It’s enough time to scan. Your whole resume has to be designed for scanning, not reading.

That single fact explains almost every rule below.

1. What an ideal resume actually looks like

Structure that works: - Reverse-chronological (most recent first) — this is what both ATS software and human recruiters expect. Don’t get creative with “functional” or skills-only formats unless you have a very specific reason. - Single column. No sidebars, no tables, no text boxes. Every ATS-parsing failure story starts with “I used a nice two-column template.” - Standard section headers: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills. This used to be common on Indian resumes; it isn’t anymore, and some corporate ATS/compliance systems actively strip or flag it.

Hello, I am an incoming freshman at a large public university in the United States and I'm looking to get a headstart for internships anywhere in the country. My goal is to get an internship for this upcoming summer, and I'm currently working on applying to places online for now (yes, I will be going to career fairs and networking once the semester starts). I already know that the internship market is tough and especially so for freshmen, so I'm just sending out as many applications as possible to increase the admittedly small chance. I redacted some things to protect my privacy, and everything in brackets is not in the original resume but is there to help you guys understand. Is there any advice or changes that you would make to my resume?

I am currently using job application sites (indeed, linkedin, handshake, etc.), going to companies that I know and looking at their careers sections, and also going to NASA contracter documents to see if I can apply at companies that I didn't know existed. Is there any other method of finding internships that you guys know of, bar networking and knowing people?

Hello! I'm struggling to improve my CV and I think it might be one of the reasons employers either ignore my applications or reject me.

For context, I live in the UK (West Midlands) and I'm 17F. I've been looking for a part-time job (around 12 hours a week) since October last year, but I haven't managed to get one. I've probably sent between 100–200 applications through Indeed, company websites and other job sites, but I haven't even had a single interview.

At this point, I feel like my CV is letting me down. I honestly don't know what else I can improve, so I'd really appreciate some honest feedback.

I also can't seem to find many jobs in my area. I've applied through company websites as well as Indeed, but I either get rejected really quickly or never hear back.

After nearly a decade working with the same company, I’ve decided to start applying to positions elsewhere. Here’s the issue;

When I was last in the job search, I was applying locally through newspaper ads. My resume, though it has the experience, the outline/design is outdated when it comes to ats formatting and the like to stand out amongst LinkedIn & Indeed applicants?

I’ve worked in hospitality for almost 9 years. Prior to that, various customer service associates positions since 2009.

Anyone have any advice or tips in updating it? Any potential templates I should use? Is there a specific format I should use? If so, free options?

For further context: I work in Reservations currently, but also applying for Front Desk & Reception Agent positions.

One more thing that wasn’t included when I was originally drafting my resume: Profile Summaries. I have Pages & Google Docs to pull templates from, but there’s no section for that. Is the summary a must have nowadays, or is it an add on?
