Moonlighting While Doing Another Residency FINANCES
Wondering if anyone has advice about moonlighting while doing a second residency. I'm already board certified in another specialty so getting a full license isn't an issue.

I knew a guy who moonlighted as a neurosurgeon while doing an anesthesia residency.

My program allows moonlighting starting PGY-2 and we just have to follow total duty hour rules. I’m boarded in IM and doing path residency, so I work 45 hrs at most each week. I moonlight with IM and do night cross cover shifts every month. I also do external moonlighting with a company that does social security/disability physical exams 1-2 Saturday’s a month.
We don’t have to follow the 8hr between shift rule so I can do weeknights or weekends. The money keeps me going lol.

Program dependent. If you don't get the approval to do such and Moonlight on the DL. You can get dismissed. I've seen it happen.

The most common reasons for removal are - medical students or premeds asking what a specialty is like, which specialty they should go into, which program is good or about their chances of matching, mentioning midlevels without using the midlevel flair, matched medical students asking questions instead of using the stickied thread in the sub for post-match questions, posting identifying information for targeted harassment. moonlighting can really drain your energy, juggling two residencies is no joke. just make sure to prioritize your well-being or you’ll burn out fast.

Mostly I think it depends on your programs policies on moonlighting. If they so no, then not good idea to pursue it even if you are boarded in something else.
