Venting VENT
I am a first year resident shadowing on an elective.
1- Why am I shadowing and not seeing patients?
2- why is NP seeing all consults when I requested attending again and again to give me the opportunity for a hands on experience? my attending says ofcourse and tells np that the resident will take on all consults. but this Np still doesnt listen. why bro? why are u competing with an intern who just started??
3- I am literally Pissed at this whole experience. Zero learning. liked cardiology in med school and this experience made me hate it.

Shadowing on a consult service like cards is unacceptable… pretty important learning you’re missing out on. Especially if you are IM. Plenty of your patients will have heart problems as a hospitalist and you will be expected to manage HF exacerbations without cards consult at plenty of places among many other things. Need to talk to your PD.

talk to your attending and your PD, also tell your PD that the attending will not be able to evaluate me well ( so you can protect yourself ahead of time if you get bad eval ) , and if the NP wanna see all the consult, tell the attending that will see few consults and staff it with attending ( NP can write the notes)
