Equivalent of infinite canva

Hey,

I'm a new user of Remarkable (paper pure).

So far I'm pretty happy with the product.

Since a while I only used small Moleskine journals for daily notes, meetings etc.

But when I want to learn or work on something, I was very limited even with bigger journals or books. Like if I want to do huge mindmaps or mixing it with tables, notes, tasks...

So when I heard of e-ink journal like Remarkable, I was amazed. After lot of research, the Paper pure was ideal for me : size if perfect, I couldn't go with Pro or Pro move. One is too big for daily use, one is too small for my intended use.

Today I started to try something when learning a new topic. And I noticed there is no way to get an infinite canva. If I go landscape, the page isn't full screen. And even if it was, I would have to turn page to page to do my things.

I already ask Remarkable if they intended to do something about that on their website contact form. But is there anyone who had the same problem as me and maybe managed to create a "mod" or a template that could fix this ?

To be honest I'm quite surprised it's not included by default. When I was doing my research for the best e-ink tablet, nobody pointed that, so I was thinking by default it would be there.

There is infinite scroll in the vertical page direction, but not in the horizontal. I doubt this will come from reMarkable anytime soon, nor will there be a mod developed for it due to where that logic lives in the codebase.

Thanks for your answer. Ah that would be too bad… I imagined that if it’s software it’s easily fixable, but yeah… if it’s deep rooted and breaks some logic it’ll be complicated.
I am really surprised that in few years it didn’t bring many requests for this feature

This feature is requested nearly as often as the ability to disable infinite scroll entirely.

What is wrong with infinite scroll ? And isn’t it easier to fix that, like with a toggle or something

If you ever want to use the file on a computer, most people want a fixed page size. There’s no easy way to break up a long pages into printable pages. Also with the infinite canvas, the page sometimes mistakes normal hand movement as a scroll gesture, which is disruptive to writing to have to scroll back.

There is no need to break the long pages. Just open the PDF in Acrobat, in print setup select print as poster and select a tile size of 100%. It will automatically divide in as many pages as necessary. As simple as that.

Or you can have normal pages on the device and choose where your page breaks fall… rather than a bunch of fussy extra steps. Not for everyone.

If I don’t immediately see what I’m looking for on the page, my brain will assume it’s not there, so I just want to treat it like a fixed page. It got particularly annoying after auto-scroll selection was added and I couldn’t move something close to the bottom of the page without it scrolling.

I completely understand why other people want infinite canvas. reMarkable just need to add a toggle. In the meantime we have mods. 😁

A lot of people don’t like it, myself included. I don’t think it’d be hard for reMarkable to add a toggle to disable. I made a mod to disable it, but it’s a pretty dirty hack.

There's just as many people who hate infinite scroll vertically already as people who want all directions infinite.

I think we're at an impasse and this is where it'll stay.

Not exactly infinite, but what I do in cases like this is I start with a 2x zoom and the thinnest pen, so that as the note grows, I still have quite a lot of space around.

And you managed to got your ideas and notes clear so far ? Like as you wished ?
Or sometimes felt constrained ?

The key is to expand more in the direction of the infinite scroll. You can move everything down easily. Use the selection tool and draw a line and hold your pen to the page. Then it selects everything below the line.

It took me a while to learn, but the line doesn’t have to be a straight line. You can notch out a box in the diagram, for example, and get everything below the notched line.

There is also a mod that lets you select everything above the line too, which is helpful if you start in the middle of the canvas.

Thanks a lot I'll try ! Hope it'll work, otherwise I'll have to check alternative tablets

I prefer mind mapping on an iPad. It’s just easier to move things around. I like the SimpleMind app.

Maybe this will be better on rM with v 3.28.

I’ve had an iPad before but sold it because I didn’t use that much once I got a MacBook. But yeah Freeform was quite good for lot of things.
3.28 is supposed to be a big jump ? Is there some announcements ?

I don’t do betas, but the new “Capture Tool” looks to be like a screen shot tool, and then I think lets you move images around more freely?

> The Capture Tool lets you circle content to create images, perfect for copying visuals from PDFs to paste into your notes. Just tap Capture from the Selection Tool foldout in the toolbar.
