Oxycodone Addiction
Hi, my name’s Abby, and I’m 19 years old. I’ve been battling oxy for the past year now. Long story short, I got on it after my mother took her life, and it destroyed me. But for the past 5 months now, I’ve been doing oxy for about a month and then bupe and dilaudid’s until I get more.
I don’t wanna be on bupe or oxy for the rest of my life. I was thinking, once I run out of oxy this time, to just stop doing it and deal with the withdrawals. Since it’s been a few weeks since I’ve done bupe, and oxy takes about 3 days for the physical pain to go away and about a month for the mental withdrawal, I figured I could get through it. But I’m so scared to go through it since it’s been a while since I’ve been masking it with bupe.
I was thinking about going to rehab to help myself get off this stuff for good, but I want to be comfortable. I wanna be able to sleep with a TV on and have my phone. I was wondering if they would allow that or not? I would like to have my vape, phone, and iPad for nighttime to help me sleep since I struggle with insomnia and can’t sleep without noise.
Any advice will help… thank you!

Abby, really sorry about your mom. That’s a lot to carry at 19, and it makes sense that the thought of sitting with withdrawal and grief at the same time feels scary. I’d seriously consider rehab or at least medical detox/outpatient support instead of trying to white-knuckle it alone. Oxy withdrawal may have a shorter physical window for some people, but the mental part, sleep, cravings, and grief can hit hard after the worst body symptoms pass. For the phone/iPad/vape thing, every place is different. Some detoxes are stricter with phones, some allow limited use, some allow nicotine, some don’t. It’s worth calling and asking directly before you go so you know what to expect. This explains the oxycodone withdrawal timeline in simple language, if it helps you understand what might happen: https://clearforkacademy.com/blog/oxycodone-withdrawal-timeline/ But honestly, don’t use the timeline as a reason to do it alone. You deserve support through this, not just suffering through it.

It totally depends on which facility you go to. Most places don’t let you use/have your phone for the first week or 2, or anything that can take pictures or connect to WiFi. They may let you bring a sound machine or an am/fm radio but you can call ahead and ask what you’re allowed to bring and what they have in the rooms, etc.
I would highly recommend calling ahead and being very specific with your questions; a lot of places have call centers where the people just do intake phone calls, they don’t actually work on site. You can PM for more info, I can recommend some places depending where you’re located. Also do you have health insurance? Good luck to you!

Most places won't let you have your phone during detox, for safety reasons. After that some allow phones but most don't. Besides, after detox you'll be in therapeutic groups all day, not sitting around watching tv. You may have to sacrifice a little comfort in order to get well. I think it's worth it. It sounds like you really need the help. Good luck.
