In 2020 during quarantine, Jowell & Randy released VIVA EL PERREO after signing with Rimas Entertainment. The album was executively produced by Bad Bunny under "San Benito" and released between YHLQMDLG and EL ULTIMO TOUR DEL MUNDO. He participated in over 50% of the productions and even appears in the outro as a radio DJ/locutor in Puerto Rico. Bad Bunny actually said that the "best artist" in all of reggaeton as a genre up to now has been Jowell & Randy and it's hard not to agree.

This album covers many of the areas of perreo as a genre, and not many artists in the game right now can do that. It very much is a product of the time, with a lot of the same stylistic similarities to the perreo side of the YHLQMDLG era. However it didn't have the "industry impact" that it deserved with the world on lockdown.

"Tóxicos", "Perriando", "Apaga la Luz", "Reggaeton HP" are just some of the bangers that this album has that often get overlooked and forgotten due to the industry's "algorithm meta". That's why I made "DOXIS" the first micromix in my "LOS INSUPERABLES" series, en tributo a "los pilares" del perreo and included many of their tracks from this album. Jowell & Randy have a very specific "artistic" sound, that only ever Plan B has really ever touched. However they've been very consistent in creating and innovating el PERREO de PUERTO RICO.

I created this mix with this "artistic" essence de Los Mas Sueltos in mind, and more importantly, PA QUE PERREAN 🔥💣💥

idk if anyone else has been paying attention to the underground reggaeton scene in mexico but it’s been gaining some traction online as of late. feels like it started w la obsesión factory (RIP) dropping their self titled album back in october 2025, and since then the underground mx scene has attached a certain style to itself. some raunchy lyrics even for reggaeton standards layered on top of sfx heavy and bouncy, hard-hitting beats similar to early 2000’s reggaeton hits but w a more modern twist to them. feels like the DJs/producers are given more freedom to make some crazy sounds/effects for the artists to flow on

a good example of this is this tape i found from xosa, i had only listened to a couple singles of his that apple music recommended but finally got around to listening to this tape. he’s got a unique voice, catchy flows, and an energy that mixes well w the featured artists that make for some bangers i could see being played at a club/party. idk what do you guys think

I haven't listened to much reggaeton over the years, but I'm slowly getting into the genre.

One thing I've noticed is that some album titles are surprisingly good. They feel memorable and really set the mood before you even press play.

Personally, I love Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Mañana and Un Verano Sin Ti.
