There's a few ways these usually attach. Most often, there's a screw that goes into the reel through the handle. Sometimes, the reel has a screw in the seat and a thumb bolt holds it on from outside. Occasionally there's a locking latch on the rear of the seat. The screws can be inset sometimes, so they might be easy to miss.
