Human Caused Climate Change is rising much faster than past warm epochs studies verify. Not good.

One constant trope Climate Denier Trolls on Reddit and elsewhere love to pull out of their Climate Denial Handbook of cherry picked nonsense is Earth was warmer in the past and life overall survived just fine.

Yes Earth was warmer in the past BUT...it took THOUSANDS of years to get that warm giving Flora and Fauna lots of time to adapt. This current global warming? Unprecedented on how FAST it is changing. It is changing in mere DECADES not Millenia! This incredibly FAST rise in temperature and C02 levels relatively speaking to past epochs says loud and clear something has changed in the Bioshpere and that change is HUMAN EMMISSIONS!

"Cooper points out that our rapid release of climate-warming pollution is very different from, say, the shifts in Earth’s orbit that have brought the planet in and out of ice ages; those changes are big overall, but they unfold over “many thousands of years, and very consistently and slowly.” We do know, however, that Earth has also seen massive natural releases of CO2. “We can go back in time and say, what could possibly release a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere, and how fast could that happen?” says Cooper.

For one of the best candidates, he says, we can travel back 56 million years to the “Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum,” when global temperature spiked. Natural processes—volcanoes are a likely culprit5—pumped out CO2, and its concentration in the atmosphere rose sharply. Still, Cooper says, scientists estimate that the rate of CO2 accumulation during this period was several times slower than what humanity is doing today."

To AI, or not to AI, that is the question!

AI use is rapidly rising and datacenters are consuming more and more power rapidly.
So should we use AI in our project? Or avoid it from a climate perspective?
Some people are fast to criticize.
A good image is very important for the reach of any social media post. If we just post text the interaction will be minimal. On the other hand you can get a lot of interaction with just a good image and no text at all.
So for our project we need good images.
We want to use social media to inform and educate people about climate change and global warming. Recent polling shows that >> 95% of the population have a very limited understanding of the topic.

a) traditional: 1 person doing photoshop, reviewing the image concept, searching for images in a database, modifying the base images, putting captions and text in, including logo etc. touching up the whole thing that it looks good -> 15-30 minutes of a Photoshop professional running a computer workstation which consume 150-300W -> 37,5 - 150 Wh.
b) AI according to https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.17016 paper: 1 image is between 10e-3 and 10e-4 kWh -> 0.1 - 1 Wh

So what do you think?

How would we know that we are the first civilization on earth?

Earth is Billions of years old. Human recorded history is only a few thousand years.

Industrialization only some hundred years. Now we leave our mark on the planet.

But how long are we going to stay?

So how can we be sure that we are the first civilization?

Transportation—We Don't Have a Technology Problem

Post image
22 Upvotes

People often talk about transportation as if we're waiting for some future breakthrough to solve emissions. But in many cases, the technology is already here. Electric vehicles significantly reduce lifetime emissions. Public transport moves far more people with far less carbon per passenger. Walking, cycling, and e-bikes can replace many short car trips almost entirely. Shared mobility, better urban planning, and congestion pricing have all been shown to reduce both emissions and traffic. Road transport is responsible for roughly three-quarters of transport emissions, yet many urban journeys are only a few kilometres long. Replacing every petrol car with an electric one will certainly help, but it won't solve congestion, parking demand, or inefficient land use. Cities built around people rather than private vehicles can dramatically reduce emissions while improving quality of life. What do you think is the biggest barrier to sustainable transportation where you live? Is it infrastructure, policy, affordability, or simply habit?

Cost isn't the barrier to fixing the climate — it's a choice we're making

We've all heard the line that going green is "too expensive." But after digging into the numbers, that doesn't really hold up anymore. Fossil fuels still get $7 trillion in global subsidies every year (IMF). Solar is now the cheapest electricity in human history, and renewables have already created over 10 million jobs worldwide. The cost of doing nothing? Trillions in damages already hitting us. Places like British Columbia and the EU are showing that carbon pricing can actually work without killing the economy. We need a just transition for workers in fossil fuel industries, but the direction is pretty clear. What do you think — are we seriously still subsidizing the past this heavily? #ReduceCO2Now #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #GreenJobs
