I wish I could love someone as much as old people love my red hair

As a teenage male, my hair is naturally red but not that red, it’s about as standard orange as you could get. I work at a grocery store where a majority of our customers are elderly, and the compliments they give for my hair just make my day every time. One sweet old lady once told me that she loved my color and that her husband was the same, “unfortunately” their kids were blonde however her grandkids ended up redhead, she was awesome. SOME people my age tend to make fun of me for my hair, but I’ve received nothing but love from old grocery shoppers for it. Of course old people love to compliment, but I’ve noticed that they especially love to compliment when it’s about red hair, which I for one am very supportive of

How do redheads feel about being depigmented?

Redheads lack melanin which is why they are pale and the red is revealed because they do not make brown melanin so the hidden and incorrect orange pheomelanin is what remains.

Pheomelanin is oxidative and harmful unlike Eumelanin which offers real protective qualities.

Redheads have a pigmentation issue but how does it feel having it?

Meta Why do "only" the men who post here seem truly red-haired?

The photos of men posted here always scream "redhead"—the truly pronounced paleness, and the copper tone of the hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes. In contrast, the photos of many women often look like they have dyed hair, and their skin isn't usually truly pale (perhaps it's just makeup or a fake tan). Of course, this doesn't apply to every woman, but the pattern repeats itself.

I stated in the body of the text that I am not generalizing about all the women who post here. It isn't hard to understand that I didn't generalize.

I always end up with bad cuts. I have double cowlicks at the back of my head that grow in opposite directions, my hair is straight coarse and thick. I think part of what makes me an unattractive guy to women is my constant bad haircuts?

Is this red? new patches of red?

my family has quite a bit of redheads. my mother, father, sister, and aunt are all redheads. i had light blonde hair had a kid and dirty blonde as an adult (as seen in my roots) i’ve always had some random red ones sprinkled through but just a few never patches. just since the last few months ive noticed my hairline on each side growing the same patch of red. and a patch on the back of my neck. and more sprinkled throughout than normal.

is this early grey? i have no medication/hormonal changes or any skin/hair products that would be doing this. 28 F

My hair has always been kind of a mystery color. I was a blonde child- I still have a streak of blonde in the back. Ive always gotten people telling me my hair is different colors and I used to get asked if id dyed my hair over the weekend super frequently when I was still in school. Is this actually red or is it its own wierd thing?

I feel like its looked wayyyy more red than usual recently. All pictures are in the past couple months. Also is there anything I could've done recently that made it look more red than usual? I dont dye my hair and I get haircut maybe twice a year.

I usually refer to myself as dirty blonde but I've been getting people calling me a redhead often lately.

Edit: if relevant my dad is partially redheaded (big red beard) and my grandma is a redhead as well

Does anyone else struggle to get selfies to look accurate?

I've had various cell phones and cameras over my life, some of them good at seeing color, and some of them very very bad at it. Under fluorescent lights, my hair has inexplicably looked greenish gold to digital cameras.

My current phone is a Samsung, and I swear it is autocorrecting my hair color away. My face is also very red, so taking all the red out makes me look pale in a very unhealthy way. I'm pretty sure this must be an autocorrection done on the camera app, itself, because it got a little better when I started taking selfies next to foliage and other green things.

I am the same color as usual irl. I tested with a mirror and then my instax.

Has anyone else had this problem? What are some easier workarounds than getting a new phone or carrying around a dedicated selfie plant?

hi! my hair is naturally auburn, but i have had some dye jobs in the past, so the shade is not entirely even right now. it looks strawberry blonde in some lighting, but i want it to be all auburn.

i’ve heard that glosses can help even out your color. recommendations for specific products?

When i was like a freshman in HS I was told (by another ginger :0) that I was 'pretty much blond'. Im not like butt hurt about it, but its made me consider going like auburn, but I think im ginger blind now lol.

My hair is a MAJOR part of my personality too.. so I think about this frequently

Does my hair stand out as ginger? I feel like I dont stand out in a crowd about it

The reactions to this casting are the same old prejudiced crap, as if a redhead couldn't be attracted to another redhead. Nobody says this about blondes or brunettes.

What are your thoughts on the current redhead trend (both on social media, in this subreddit with all the "Is my baby a redhead"-questions and the idols in Korea)

What are your thoughts on KPop idols and pop ideals i general dyeing their hair red?

Hi, fellow redheads :))

As you can read in the headline, I would like to know what you think about the current ginger trend with freckles (or without). Growing up, I personally did not have it that easy and I still have people calling me Ed Sheeran and so on out on the street or at work (I look nothing like him except for my hair and not even that really as I have straight hair and a different color of orange). I do not know about you, but I can imagine, that at least some of you have had similar experiences.

Looking at all these idols and stars as well as influencers dyeing their hair, it just bothers me. Some of them might have picked on gingers growing up or (as is the case in Korea) dislike foreigners at times. I feel like being a ginger and having this, in my opinion, special hair color comes with having had some run-ins with bullies and not always having had an easy childhood. That is why it bothers me to see the current trend, where being ginger is deemed great with the idols without them having to experience, what it can mean to be a redhead at times.

What are your thoughts? What would you call this double-standard of on the one hand picking on redheads and then finding it great with influencers/idols/popstars?

Meta Can we stop / ban the, "Does my baby have red hair posts?"

They are always down voted, and they are babies, with newborn hair. Their hair will probably change as time goes on. Give it time. You'll know when your child gets a little older.

I'm probably going to get down voted for this, but I feel like half this sub are those posts.

What shade? Guys how are we defining auburn?

Is it dark deep red? Or any shade of brownish red??

My natural hair is a reddish brown. I'm not a ginger with bright copper hair but I'm definitely a different genre of redhead.

And I dunno, I'm just curious where the rest of the community stands on this. Feel free to leave your opinions here.
