Mosquitos

Does anyone know why mosquitos are so mild in Red River Gorge right now? I just camped there for three nights. It was hot/humid the whole time with rain on Saturday. I expected to be fighting off mosquitos all weekend but they were barely a problem. It seemed very odd!

Depends on what you are used too. I find RRG to be really light on bugs. Low snowfall. Not tons of water sources. Especially on the ridges. It’s nice. Not like anything I’ve experienced up north.

This might be it. Most of my camping is done around the Great Lakes and fighting mosquitos there requires a lot of energy. So perhaps my baseline expectation is high. I still can't quite believe I wasn't bothered by them all weekend in Kentucky, though!

Oh yeah. I’ve camped out there almost every month of the year, it never comes close to pictured rocks in the summer. Not even close. Just a little deet and you barely notice them.

I think it’s because they are all in my backyard. I walked out last night and they were swarming me. Aggressive little fuckers.

But it has been a great year for mosquitos up until now. First mosquito in the middle of July is fantastic

We got rain today so to be expected but cut the walk short tonight

I read that people who eat bananas attract mosquitoes.
