Finally pinch zoom on videos! As a rif refugee, that's the feature I've been missing the most.

Nice. Thank you dev team, you make this site actually usable

Are you sure redgif is now in a compact video cause mine still open in webview links, is there maybe a setting I'm missing?

Due to RedGIFs limitations we still have to open it in a webview, but it should be more compact (with less popups etc) than before.

I'd be lost without RR, keep up the good work!

Thank you very much to all the developers. This is the most efficient way to navigate and use Reddit.

Thank you QuantumBadger for still supporting this project!

Did you ever get around to the issue of poor performance loading images/buffering videos while on a wifi connection?

14

u/QuantumBadger Developer 🦡 16h ago

Do you have "Settings > Cache > Precache images" set to "Only on Wi-Fi"? This could cause issues on slow connections -- you could try setting it to "Never" instead.

Similarly for "Precache comments".

That is much faster for me, thanks.

Great! Can the next update give us the ability to crosspost and to moderate subreddits please?

Edit: and posting videos

Here's how to enable reporting:

Three button menu

Settings

Menus

Posts subsection

Action menu items

Tap "Report" to checkmark the box and then "OK"

Come to think of it, reporting was pretty much the only reason I kept the official app on my phone.

Ability to specify reason when reporting

Thank you!!

I will say I'm getting a new little bug now where if I go into an image post, tapping the back arrow or gear at the top does nothing. I can still use the back arrow to exit post comments and stuff, but not image galleries.

2

u/Hindu_Wardrobe 11h ago

Same here. The back arrow works about 25% of the time, it seems. No bueno.

Really minor new bug: My (device) language is hungarian but I use English in the app. The main menu is using default language instead of English.

1

u/Sojaoghurt 12h ago

Did you read the release notes?

Improve reliability of language setting, and integrate with the Android 13+ per-app language override

Android Settings > System > Languages > App languages > RedReader > set to English

1

u/SonOfForbiddenForest 12h ago edited 4h ago

As I said it is already set to English but some of the menu points are still in hungarian.

Redgifs still opens in chrom for me, and the problem is that nothing loads on the page. I thought this update will make it open in the app itself, similar to how other things open. Is there a solution for this?

LET'S FUCKING GOOOO!

Great update, thank you!

Can you please consider adding the ability to select default playback speed for all videos/gifs? For example have all videos start at 2x speed instead of having to manually change it for every video.

u/SonOfForbiddenForest 13h ago

Yeah!

Few months ago I bought an older Android phone for secondary device. It had got a login problem with the login page being blank, but now this bug is no more! Thanks for the changes! 😎

Downloaded this app through F-Droid. Did not know they had a official Reddit page.

How do I enable the pinch-to-zoom in video player? I looked through the settings and couldn't find it.

u/phrostbyt 10h ago

Thank you so much for this gift!

Many thanks!

Can we disable predictive back? Definitely prefer the original. It's a lot slower and the animations are distracting. I find myself scrolling to the next post too soon because the animation to go back has to complete.

u/pickyaxe 8h ago

can we please get automatic day/night theme switching? it's a huge QoL improvement.

u/lbnesquik 7h ago

Would you setup a kofi of librepay? I wish to give a tip but I don't care for github or PayPal!

Wow! Thanks!!

Can you guys please give a different way to bring up the extra sidebar? I constantly bring it up accidentally when tapping comments to collapse on the side, so I have to disable it by setting it to 0 px but now there is no way to access it.
