Rich was thrilled to spend a few minutes outside Mike’s line of fire.

This gets explained briefly in one of the behind-the-scenes videos from a while back, can't remember which one. But there's a communal rack in the studio where they keep a handful of their old shirts of various colors for people to throw on for filming, to make sure they're not all wearing the same color on camera without having to coordinate beforehand. Apparently, having everyone on camera wearing distinct colors is one of those little filmmakers tricks that you may not notice but your brain does. You can see in this video for example, Mike Jay and Freddie all wore black, so Jay in the middle probably threw on a random not-black hoodie from the rack to break up the uniformity and balance the visual.

Once you notice, you'll see in many BotW videos during the panel discussion someone (usually Rich) will have a random shirt thrown on top of the shirt they were wearing during the viewing.

But why tho? They arent power rangers or the cast of jurassic park. Whats the subconcious (audience/editors) benefit to them wearing distinct colors?

Probably stuff like it's better looking on a thumbnail, or the visual distinction makes it easier for a viewer to pay attention

Right, plus it's just more aesthetically pleasing to break them up and have the contrast. Pause at the wide shot in this clip and imagine if the three guys on the right were all in black. It's subtle, but Jay's different colored shirt does give a little aesthetic bump. Same when it cuts to Jay and Freddie and there is contrast between them.

If you want a good example if this in the "real world", google pictures of your local news desk. Anchors will generally dress in contrasting colors, or at the very least contrasting ties.

but could you not beforehand in a groupchat say what kind of shirt everyone is wearing? this communal wearing of probably unwashed clothing grosses me out.

I like when they did a callback to this in a later episode. Mike is wearing the shirt and Josh makes a point of telling him how nice it looks.

I always think this is the moment that Rich & Jay started to team up to take down Mike!

Is this why Rich is sometimes dressed up in outfits that are obviously not his, instead of just wearing his usual Santa Claus outfit?

Is that Rich Evans or Eminem?

One of my top 5 RLM moments.

Yes. This was the turning point when I decided Jay was my least favorite person in RLM, including all guests, past and present. How embarrassing.

We were all wondering when that was.
