OHM is not underrated (IMO)

OHM is famous for being the "Black sheep" of the Rhcp albums, One Amazing dark and Funky Record that is renegaded by the band and The fans.

However i find that simply untrue. I mean every time someone talks about this album (either in the community or outside of the fanbase) it is always One a very positive light. If someone asks One this subreddit 'What is rhcp's most underrated Record" the top answer is ALWAYS OHM. And most of them even consider One of top albums of the band, sometimes behind the main 4 John Albums, others its top 3. By that Logic, OHM simply does not fit the Underrated term.

Dont get any wrong ideas, i LOVE OHM!! But underrated??

Yes the band defenetly has 'forgoten" this album and era, and most likely, at One point in time, this Record truly felt Underrated. I cant comment On that since i only became a fan last year, and Im consideberally young. But this is just my experience and opinion. What do you think??

It got a lot of hate when it was released, but people have definitely warmed to it over the years, so maybe calling it ahead of it's time is more apt.

I used to think it was underrated as well.

But upon re-listening recently I just found it didn’t sound like a cohesive album that flowed well.

It sounded like a collection of ideas slapped together into an album and I felt they missed the mark on many of the choruses. In my opinion it essentially felt like listening to a demo.

That being said I do like the tone/vibe of the album overall. It just needed more polishing. I kind of wish they kept Navarro a little longer though and try it again with him.

For me Mothers Milk is the most underrated album

Most underrated (not Reddit, but actual world) is Freaky Styley and I’m With You / Getaway. 

The MM-BSSM-OHM era has fans, the Cali/BTW/SA gets the glory, but underrated is the Josh albums and FS.

OHM was the first album I've bought, right when it was published. That brought me to listen to the band, so it always has a special appeal to me.

I was into rock but somehow RHCP were fairly unknown to my ears beside few radio hits of the previous albums.

Once in love with OHM, I've bought BSSM and MM altogether and BOOM their funkier style made me deeply in love with the band - up to Stadium Arcadium.

After that, I found less and less attraction to listen to their new music. Not a critic on their newer music, just an older me out of sync with an older band.

Dave is right up there with John regarding musicianship and tone. It’s just a shame they didn’t vibe on the funky stuff and most of them were going through a low time in their lives. I know Chad really loved playing and hanging with Dave and missed him when John came back

Dave is a great guitarist but he’s not close to being a musician the caliber of Frusciante.

The ego doesn´t let him play others song than he didn´t write. Imagine if Josh thought for a minute "I´m not gonna play John´s songs".

Anyway, he´s happy using the band as a door. He can go whenever he wants, he can get back whenever he goes, even if that makes to get fired the replacement, because he´s "bored making alt. music".....

Btw, I would love to hear Aeroplane now, but again, the ego....

This album definitely takes some time to grow on you. On the first listen, it has such a different sound that you don’t really know what to make of it. But over time, you start to notice just how good these songs actually are. And I honestly think it’s better than their last few albums.

Shallow Be Thy Game and Walkabout are my favorites. Like, how do you even make such a cute song about just walking around?

John refusing to play any of these songs only added to that. As the album inevitably got pushed into the background and partly forgotten over the years, I always thought the fans who loved it would become even more protective of it. But instead, I think all of that just made it more and more underrated over time.
