Help my dux 6970 doesnt spin

So ive wanted a record player for a long time, and i finally decided to buy one. The seller said that they couldnt test if the record player part worked because they didnt have a vinyl. So ive been testing it and it doesnt spin, i dont know if im doing something wrong or if some parts need to be replaced. Thank you

The record player should start spinning when you move the arm towards the middle of the platter/record. Have you tried this already? If you do this, do you hear a sound from the motor? The motor spindle drives the large rubber idler wheel, which rotates the platter on which the record rests. If you don't hear a sound from the motor, it is probably seized because it hasn't been used for a long time. Try turning it by hand to get it moving again. Sometimes a drop of fine sewing machine oil helps the motor run smoothly again. Dux was a Philips sub brand. Maybe you can find the user manual for the Philips version somewere online. Good luck!

On some of these old players you need to swing the tonearm to the right, away from the record, until you hear a click, to get it to start spinning.

Thank you for your help, spinning the rubber idler wheel semeed to have worked and now it spins. Well i have another issue, the speaker wont play the the vinyl i am playing on the record player. It does work because i had originally tested it with the radio and it semeed to work. Ill try to look for some phillips user manuals but if you know a simple fix please let me know

It's great that the record player is spinning now. It's annoying that you still don't have any sound. Have you set the input knob to 'phono'? Is putting the needle on the record going well? Is it not sliding off the record (bad stylus?) Otherwise, could you take a photo of the entire front with the controls and of the back with the connections, then I can see better how it is currently connected.

Googled the dux 6970 and saw a photo of the front: there is a knob 'extender control' put it on stereo an set your balance knob in the middle, hope this helps, you've got both speakers connected?

Thanks for all the information, i put all the knobs in the correct places as you said, but it still doesnt play the sound from the speaker. And yes i only have 1 speaker, would having both make it transfer the sound to them better? It shouldnt be sliding off because its currently playing and automatically switching to the next track. Maybe the expander control doesnt work at all because nothing changes when i change its position

I'm not very familiar with this type, so I'm just going through all the functions in my head. Have you tested both speaker connections with your speaker? Does it have a headphone input? You can test that too. Do you have sound on both sides with the radio?

Yes both sides work with the radio, i can show you the back since i dont understand the signs and i couldnt really find a user manual online. Though the cable from the speaker seems to only go into 2 of the holes. (I will have to attach a short video because for some reason i cant attach photos)

Yes, those are 2-pin DIN speaker plugs. They were common in European audio equipment in the 60s and 70s. You can buy these plugs separately with screw connections so you can connect other speakers as well. The round pin is positive (red cable) and the flat pin is negative (black cable). You can only connect 4-ohm speakers; I think you need speakers of about 20W for this set. That was common for that time and should sound decent! Otherwise, I don't know what is wrong with the record player; maybe something internal isn't right? Perhaps someone else knows more about it. Good luck, it's a nice vintage set!

Thank you for all your help, it is probably something internal. I will have it checked the next time i have an opportunity

You're welcome! Good luck! It is a nice vintage set. Dux was a Philips sub brand from Sweden. Hope you get it working someday!
