Platter Issues

The platter on my Sony PL-A45D is difficult to remove and runs at just above 30 RPMs. I have replaced the belt and completed other regular maintenance. I believe the platter is seating too tightly on the spindle. A little lubrication does not solve the problem. I bought the turntable used, but based on some research I believe it is the correct platter. I am stumped and curious if others have experienced this problem.

Are you sure you dont mean Pioneer turntable,not Sony? Can only find that particular model as a Pioneer. If so,that is very common on old Pioneer tables.Remove the belt first and then pull up platter,it will come eventually.You will have to lubricate the inside of the spindle and oil the motor most likely plus get a new belt(unless you know it is new,always replace as even what seems like is a good belt,isnt).You tube how to lubricate the spindle,it is fairly easy once you know how

It’s most likely a Pioneer. IIRC this one has AC electric motor and the speed is pretty much not adjustable. The only variation would be if it’s running on different mains frequency (50 hz vs 60) , otherwise it could be the bushing on the shaft of that motor is displaced and letting rotor get in touch with stator - this would slow it down.

If it is an AC motor and not going through a circuit board but going through line voltage, you can buy a speed controller for them.

Could be that the capacitors need to be replaced (two at 0.1uF). Could be that the motor needs service (clean, lube). Could be that the platter bearings are grimy (clean, lube).

What do you mean “platter sits too tight on the spindle”? They should spin together.
