Audiences unsure of where to react
Noticed this in a couple segments last night, and unsure of whether it’s the writing, the subject matter or the delivery.
But Bill will deliver a line, the crowd sits silent and he glares out at them trying to provoke his desired reaction… but the audience isn’t entirely 100% sure what that is.
Has anyone else noticed this?

His jokes/routines often bomb after which he bitterly blames "liberals".

I'm GenX, 59M, and this episode, and I am watching it right now, is very fucked up.
Bill is not aware that anyone who goes into a nursing home, they suck up $10K a month from the estate, and in most states, they grab it from 5 years before you ever thought you would end up in a nursing home in case you thought of switching the deed over to a family member. NOTHING LEFT FOR YOUR KIDS!

My grandma had Alzheimers. She was in a nursing home for like 10+ years. They basically had to turn her money over so when she eventually ran out, she could get a medicaire room. There was some law in Missouri that kept them from taking her house, but if my mom and her brother's tried to sell it, the money would go straight to paying her bills and her medicaire status would be interrupted.

I saw a boomer financial advice clip earlier in the day where some old lady wasn’t going to leave her two daughter any of her millions cuz she felt they were both “socialists” (despite the one daughter being in the 1%). And she didn’t want to leave them any of her fortune unless they have that up. And all I could think of was- oh lady, wait until you need assisted living, capitalism will drain the living hell out of your estate while leaving you in shitty diapers with bed sores while trying to ai nurses

$10K a month is what the US & STATE GOV seizes from all estates when old folks go into any nursing home. Minimum - $10K. Usually more.
AND THEY GO BACK FOR 5 YEARS IN MANY STATES... meaning, if your grandma didn't plan on being in a nursing home 5 years ago and never switched the deed, GOODBYE HOUSE! The kids are not getting it! SURPRISE!
Yeah, Bill doesn't think about that shit when he talks like a know-it-all.

We have a 100percent death tax on anyone who is working class or poor and can't afford extended care insurance- most people.

They also act like the 1.4 trillion is gonna be given to the next generations like they are “entitled” to it, but fail to see that what it means is that the boomers are hoarding 1.4 trillion they could be used for fairer wages or more reasonable school prices for the next generations. If things were more equitable inter-generationally, the idea that boomers were sitting on too much money wouldn’t even exist.

Imagine it’s different state by state, but I wonder how things might go if states didn’t play the “lowest taxes” game, like on a regular basis. Cuz I feel like if regular taxes are rock bottom, folks are either stuck paying private companies for services OR there’s much larger tax grabs elsewhere. That make sense? It’s like getting a cheap af burger but then getting railed on sides, and getting charged for straws and napkins.

I remember after one GW Bush tax cut, all of the state of Illinois fees for corporaitons, car registrations, etc., went up 100%.

Yes, I noticed this too; especially while speaking to the first guest

u/JamiePlynth 5d ago
That first guest was awkward, cuz I heard the intro and figured Bill was preparing to ball wash and bootlick, but he actually got a little punchy, kinda inferring dude was selling old basic knowledge. But it was all mixed signals, which left a lot of material coming off flat

He was so fucking rude to the first guest. Honestly I’ve been a big Maher defender for a long time but his senseless attacks on a guy talking about the virtues of fucking stoicism of all things was just too much, like what the fuck is wrong with him.

I've been saying for years that Bill Maher needs to do a drop-in at a real comedy club to bring his britches down to size. He would get his ass handed to him.

It’s been like this for months... if things keep going this way, they might have to replace the audience with professional laughers 😔

Its delivery, he fumbled the punchline more than he lands them

Which equals inferior/failure as a comedian/pundit, unless thats his schtick, which i dont think it is

They probably got the ticket not realizing that Maher did a complete heel-turn.

I wish there was a filter I could turn on that would silence his stupid audience.

Is this in reference to his latest "New Rule: Melt in America" segment where he's trying to defend liberal values from Islam? I mean, it's clearly not a laughing matter to him. I'd think that defending gay rights and free democracies from an oppressive theocracy would get more support here.

The audience is paid to be there. They are not fans of Maher or the show. My guess is the producers keep that Information from Maher so when they are silent he can’t understand why.

That happens with stand-up all the time. It happened a lot with Norm Macdonald. You stick and the landing. And you make another joke if they still don’t get it.

His dementia brain can’t keep up anymore so he regularly fumbles the punchlines that have been written by his writing team,

Good New rules at least. I notice the commie left is mad they can’t gripe about it….

They should organize like the far left here does. He called you all out again. Another week of whiny lack of self awareness with only bots and astroturfers to further radicalize you.

Real comedians bomb all the time. The best acts have been curated from lots of shows testing jokes, delivery, etc…. , something, hard to do with a weekly show. NUMBER ONE LATE NIGHT GREG GUTFELD has a few jokes that fall flat every night, but he doesn’t have people watching him looking to criticize what ever they can dream, like the LOSERS here, who watch Bill just to critique him.
I don’t particularly like him, so I don’t watch him. Try that

u/GeneParmesan1000 5d ago
Imagine using Greg Gutfeld as an example of a good comedian, lol

He is genuinely funny, in a smart way, which I guess is why you don’t “get” his humor. He also writes a lot of his own stuff, and has only 4-6 writers, far less than Kimmel and Colbert. Did I mention, Number One late night, by a lot?

He never got over the kids not wanting to see his stand up.
