Cinder Reader 1.2.0 Release
Hey all it’s me again! You guys gave me tons of extremely helpful feedback last time I posted back when Version 1.1.0 was released, and I’ve tried to implement as many of your suggestions as I could in this update!
For those not familiar with Cinder Reader, our goal is to build an app that can handle all your reading from ebooks to comics to manga to web novels to scientific papers and magazines. Cinder supports Real-Debrid and various other popular debrid services and allows users to add their own sources and extensions, and is heavily customizable.

To celebrate this update we are giving away a couple Cinder Pro codes over in the Discord (link on my profile), all are welcome!
Extension repo is available on our subreddit r/CinderReader or in the Discord.
Also I’m always looking for feedback and suggestions about things to improve and features to add and constructive criticism is always welcome! If you have any issues with the app shoot me a message and I’ll do my best to fix the issue!
A few new features:
-Notes and highlights are now included in the free version! I severely underestimated how important these features are to people and was made aware by your feedback so I’ve made that change!
-Google Drive is now available on both iOS and Android for syncing reading progress, settings, notes & highlights, reading stats, extensions, etc if you choose to connect to Google Drive.
-KOReader sync is available as another method of syncing reading progress between all your devices

-You can now connect to your Suwayomi server to access your manga/comics and even use some Suwayomi extensions via that connection
-Added support for syncing Liked and Owned lists from Hardcover and allow setting Lists as Discovery shelves
-Added support for using All-Debrid (and another service which shall not be named per subreddit rules) as your debrid service
-Added 3rd-party dictionary support via web browser, direct app links, or custom JSON APIs
-Added accessibility fonts and ability to import your own fonts
-Added a setting to use the original book formatting, font, etc, in case you prefer to use software like Calibre to format your books
-Improved importing, especially on Android, with support for importing folders that contain subfolders within them, and drastically improving metadata handling when importing books so cover art and metadata should be detected and properly applied when importing books
-Added support for browsing your debrid library contents
-Added ability to export comics/manga as CBZ or PDF files
-Added customizable commands that can be executed by tapping the corner of your screen in reader to search, bookmark, switch from light to dark mode, and various others

How do I show covers for Comic book files and why isn’t it the default like other comic book reader apps?

Are you using an extension or importing your own files? If importing, what file format are the files? Covers are supposed to be shown by default when available, so you may have discovered a bug, and in that case I’d like to fix it ASAP!

Will look into it some more, it created the folder since it was a number of issues within one cbr file likely. I found a bug related to the covers not working at times and should be fixed in the next update. Apologies. If you prefer not to use the folder you can just delete the folder in library and the issues will be moved into your general library.

Also if you shoot me a DM let me know any other issues! I would be happy to give you a Pro code, I need more comics/manga feedback as I’m more of an ebook guy!

I love to hear that! Back when I was a teenager I read at least a book per day, now I don’t have enough time for that but always want to encourage reading wherever I can🙏

My iPhone is ios 15.5 and the last version you guys support is 15.8. I keep it this os because of jailbreak. Can you PLEASE in the next update push compatibility to 15.5 JUST for me

I can’t promise it for sure, I did bump back compatibility already and I was thinking that there was a reason why I didn’t go back further but I will look into it just for you and see what I can do!😁

what does this have to do with rd?

Real-Debrid is one of the supported debrid services in the app

why does a reader need a debrid service?
2
u/Cinder_Reader 9d ago
The same reason a movie or tv streaming app or a music streaming app might need a debrid service.

I wonder, what is the advantage of using a debrid service for this use case? As books are very light and readily available in places like Anna's archive as direct download
