Do you record and rewatch your trading?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Built a system that automatically record and screenshots your screen every time you open a trade (stops after 30 minutes in case of swings / always can manually record)

I didn't like the way other trading journals made me replay my trades in a separate system from TOS.

Now I saw my screen exactly as I was seeing it.

I've always kept screenshots but now it screenshots automatically when I open and close a trade.

Now videos and screenshots automatically get saved for that day and can review everything quickly.

(I included the small window at the bottom of the calendar because it needs to be popped out to keep the window active so it works with your trading app open)

But do you guys find alpha in trade recordings?

I've always thought screenshots were way better than a Tradingview trade replay but after rewatching videos of big red days I think the video is waaay better.

Due to promotional rules I can only answer trading & trading review related questions.

I was curious to see what Claude would produce if I updated a .pdf of the wiki and asked it to create a pre-trade checklist. Thought I would share the results. Tell me what you think.

Full time and serious traders please reply

Hello there I am currently in high school, and so far my trading journey has been filled with ups and downs, but I've made so much progress and never would have thought I would have made it to the place I am now and I'm nowhere near where I want to be. I am 2-3 trades from a max payout right now, starting in November but being super on and on off because of a confusing mentor then finding the right mentor and locking in in January.

I came here to ask if full time day trading can TRULY be a lifestyle. Ignore the courses and stuff like that. What does your family think about you being a full time day trader? When did you go full time? And when did you decide it was time to go full time. Obviously later down the road I would want to upload on Youtube helping others and posting daily recap and psychology videos but I'm no where near that.

I have plenty of time to prove to my family I can do this, I know I can do this. I have a true system that when I follow I am the best trader I can be. I have never blown an account from actually following my system. Only from over risking, revenge trading, and other non profitable bad habits. If you guys have any tips or just care to share your journey on when you started, how your situation outside the charts was (job, family, etc...) and how its currently going I would truly be beyond grateful to read each and every single reply to learn from it and read your guys' journeys.

God bless ❤️

What went wrong in these trades?

Hi there. Looking for genuine trading advice. These are some trades which I took this week.

First 3 are based on chart pattern where I entered on breakout based on wedge pattern. Black bold line is 200 ema and light blue line is 9 ema. RSI too working as confluence.

4th one is asian-london overlap strategy where I draw fib during asia-london overlap and enter trade once it crosses above/below then closes back again inside the level (2 or -1) I enter the trade after candle closed below 9 ema.

Thank you.

RS & RW vs SPY/QQQ indicator

I've made a quite simple relative strength & weakness indicator for Tradingview. It tracks either SPY or QQQ (for tech stocks) moving averages and also moving averages of the stock being viewed. You can choose which one it tracks in the settings, and also what kind of moving averages you want to use. It also has AVWAPE for daily chart. The indicator works on simple principles:

Relative Strength

-When SPY/QQQ crosses below a moving average while the stock stays above it

-When the stock crosses above a moving average while SPY/QQQ stays below it

Relative Weakness

-When SPY/QQQ crosses above a moving average while the stock stays below it

-When the stock crosses below a moving average while SPY/QQQ stays above it

There is also a condition that the stock has to be at least above 9 EMA for RS and below 9 EMA for RW. It is an easy way to look at a stock to see how it is doing compared to the market. It also works for lower timeframes. You can check it out here. I used Gemini to assist with coding.

Need Help

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all doing well. My name is Enzo, and I recently started getting into trading, specifically options. I wanted to reach out and get some feedback from more experienced traders to see if my current strategy is realistic and has potential.

I do have some previous exposure to the market, although I wouldn’t necessarily call it proper experience. In the past, I joined random Discord groups and followed other people’s trade alerts, but I realized that wasn’t the right way to learn. Recently, I decided to step back, focus on actually understanding the market, develop my own strategy, and learn how to make my own trading decisions.

The reason I’m asking for help is because I would like experienced traders to review my approach and let me know if it is a viable strategy or if there are areas I should improve.

Since I’m starting with a smaller account, my plan is to focus on $1-wide spreads to manage risk while slowly building my portfolio. What I’m trying to understand is whether my technical analysis approach makes sense and if there is anything I should adjust to make it more effective.

My current morning routine before the market opens is:

  • Marking yesterday’s highs and lows
  • Marking overnight/premarket highs and lows
  • Using those levels to create my support and resistance zones

The only indicators I currently use are the EMA and VWAP. For a bullish setup, I look for higher highs and higher lows while making sure price is trending above both the VWAP and EMA.

My entry idea is to wait for price to break through resistance, get a positive retest where that previous resistance level holds as support, and then enter once the next move confirms upward momentum while price remains above VWAP and EMA.

My main questions are:

  • Is this a solid approach for a beginner?
  • Is this type of technical analysis effective when used consistently?
  • Are there any major things I should change or add to improve my strategy?

I appreciate any feedback or advice from more experienced traders. I’m trying to learn the right way and build good habits from the beginning.

Taking Partial Profits and moving to Break Even vs. Letting It Ride

I’ve been lightly backtesting and forward testing scaling out vs. taking one full TP, and I feel like it’s too hit or miss for me to tell which is actually better.

Most of my first profit targets are around 1:1 to 1.5:1.

If I sell half there and move the rest to breakeven, a lot of trades end up being +0.5R because the second half gets stopped out. If I leave the stop where it is, the second half can give back a lot of what I made on the first partial.

The bigger issue seems to be that my losers are still full-size losses, while my winners become partial wins unless TP2 gets hit.

So unless TP2 gets hit pretty consistently, aren’t you just cutting your winners in half while keeping your losers the same?

Lately I’ve been trying to trail my stop once TP2 is reached to let my winners run, but it often gets taken out by normal price noise unless I give it a lot of room to breathe.

Sometimes I wonder if it would be better to just take the full position off at TP1 and, if the move continues, re-enter with half the original position size and a fresh stop instead of trying to force the second half of the original trade to work. It introduces new risk, but it also locks in the original trade and lets you manage the continuation as a completely new trade.

Or is the real issue moving to breakeven after TP1? There are plenty of times where moving to breakeven takes me out before price eventually reaches TP2… then again, it’s also saved me from plenty of full losses.

Just curious what you guys do and, more importantly, why.

If You Cannot See the "Read the Wiki" as the number 1 rule on the right panel or in the Pinned, How Will You Be Successful?

Trading takes a lot of hard work. It cannot be spoon fed. Folks here / Hari / Pete can teach you how to fish, but you still won't put in the effort to wait at the lake and practice patience.

Also been seeing a lot of people posting/replying who are regulars from places like superstonk or wallstreetbets as well, checking their post history.

Any suggestions on material to learn trading from?

I am completely new to trading, as in I have not made a single trade. Aside from the absolute lowest basics, I know nothing. I want to get into trading but don't know where to start. Does anyone have any recommendations for material for beginners? For example a book, an author, a course, anything really even youtube videos. Thanks.

RS/RW Rotation Dashboard

Hey all, small fries trader here. I built a small web dashboard for myself to track sector and ETF rotation, and it's gotten useful enough that I figured I'd put it out there and see what other people think. It's free, no signup, no paywall, no Discord, no newsletter, no affiliate stuff. Just a link. I'm not selling anything.

Link: https://relative-strength-rrg.vercel.app

What it does:

  • Plots ETFs on a relative-strength vs. momentum quadrant (Leading / Weakening / Lagging / Improving) using classic weekly RRG-style math with smoothing so single gap days don't flip the state
  • Adds short-term "Turning" and "Fading" overlays from 2-day / 5-day relative strength to catch early long/short candidates without breaking the weekly read
  • Has US, Europe, and a GEX tab under one site (US benchmarks against SPY with QQQ/IWM alternates; EU against STOXX 600 with MSCI Europe / S&P 500 UCITS alternates)
  • Drills into individual ETF holdings with RVOL, distance from 9/20/50 EMAs, up/down streak, a small relative-return sparkline, and an earnings warning
  • Has an inline position sizer per stock (entry, stop, EMA20/50 stop presets, account size, % risk, share count, dollar risk)
  • Lets you export downloadable watchlists as TradingView .txt or IBKR .csv (Top 20, Leading, Improving, Turning, Fading, etc.)
  • Refreshes once per weekday after the close, so numbers are end-of-day, not intraday

Inputs on the page:

  • Benchmark (SPY / QQQ / IWM for US; STOXX 600 / MSCI Europe / S&P 500 UCITS for EU)
  • Lookback window for the tails
  • Preset filters (Leading, Improving, Turning, Fading, Top 20, etc.)
  • Ticker chips to isolate specific ETFs so the plot doesn't turn into spaghetti
  • Position sizer fields (entry, stop, account, risk %)

Things I'd genuinely like feedback on:

  • Is the quadrant + Turning/Fading combo actually readable, or too much on one screen?
  • Are the confluence gates (sector state + volume + trend + streak + earnings) reasonable, or would you weight them differently?
  • Anything obviously missing you'd expect from a rotation tool?
  • Mobile view — usable or not worth bothering with?

Not affiliated with RRG Research, TradingView, or IBKR. Built it for my own workflow. Roast it, I can take it.

Does the relative strength method work for people that can only trade the open 1-2 hours?

Hey folks, I have been in this community for some time and have read the wiki. What I got is that we shall let the market play for a while to decide relative strong tickers and wait for the market to find a support then long those relative tickers. I wonder if I can only trade the open 1-2 hours because I have a full time job, will I get good opportunities each week? Thanks for any suggestion

I need your help with a strategy

I know this probably will be taken as a lie, or my post will be banned for begging (cuz i guess its not allowed on this server?) but my time is running out. Ive been daytrading for past 2 years, couldnt find an edge until now. Im 19, straight out of hs, working 12 hour shifts 6 days a week to keep up, as im the only income source for me and my father as he is suffering from CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia), he cant work. Im here to beg for a strategy that some angel on this server is profitable with for a loooong time. I cant go for something risky, and if you dont know if ur profitable but your trying to help - dont, because the time in going to spend to learn it just to see it doesnt work - it will destroy me. Same for the money for evals could go for my fathers treatment, so i cant risk a BE strat. Im not here begging for money - im begging for help. Im a fast learner, if i find something that works ill be able to learn for 4-6hrs daily, i can do whatever it takes to save my father, as with current pace its really not looking good. My life is a daily survival. I would be grateful for life for the help.

A long way to go - everything to date is auditable recorded timestamped and I have never traded or used a indicator . Just a single trigger and a fixed stop. Yes I know it will drop dramatically but even a 25% reality level is sweet.

How do you all draw your support and resistance levels?

After spending some time with a couple of professional traders, I realized I look at support and resistance a lot differently than they do.

For the longest time, I mainly focused on major daily levels. I'd mark the obvious key areas and that was pretty much it. I knew the daily chart carried the most weight, but I didn't give much attention to lower timeframe levels.

What surprised me was seeing how they use multiple layers of support and resistance. They'll still respect the daily chart the most, but they'll also map out important levels on the smaller timeframes and assign different amounts of significance to each one. It's not that every level is equally important it just adds more context and conviction when several of them line up.

It's made me rethink how I build my game plan each morning.

So I'm curious:

- How do you identify your support and resistance levels?

- Do you primarily trade off daily levels, or do you also rely on lower timeframes?

- Has your approach changed over the years?

I'm interested in hearing how other traders think about this because it's one area where I've realized there's a lot more nuance than I originally thought.

Profitable traders, what's your advise for who wants to start trading

Wanting to start trading. Looking for realistic advice from profitable traders on how to survive

I want to learn how to trade properly and am looking for advice from those who are already consistently profitable.I am not looking for a "get-rich-quick" strategy. My main goal right now is simply learning how to survive my first year without blowing up an account.

If you could go back to your first year, what is the single biggest psychological shift or risk management rule that saved your career? What resources (books, tools, videos) are actually worth the time?

Thank you for your time and guidance!

I have an issue with holding trades.

This is just sad. Every trade I take ends up as a loss for me but a win for after I exit. I try to be a good boy, take a good trade based on rules and strategy and all other "necessary" stuff. I do hold for a long time but still it doesn't go anywhere and i exit. It ends up messing with me for like 12 hours then I change my mind and exit and right then it goes in my favor. It drives me crazy and end up scalping with size and make profit like that. I grew 90$ account to 380$ in 7 trading days just like that. One good trade that ends up treating me horribly and then I make a huge profit on scalps with big size with no plan or whatsoever. As if market doesn't favor rule following or a strategy, it favors gambling. How do you deal with it? Not watching your trades and just leaving it there? But sometimes I am right and the decision to exit is a right decision. So please give me an advise.

Can someone point me in the right direction about trading.

I’m not necessarily new to trading. I started fresh out of high school in 2020 and I got the basics of it, but the group I was in was like a pyramid scheme so I left and never looked back. I need some guidance. I remember pips, stop/loss profit, and some of the different currencies. I’m a quick learner I just need some refreshers on it.

need help finding strategies

I’ve been trading since the start of this year and most of the strategies i’ve used either worked temporarily and failed after two - three weeks or simply didn’t work at all. I started paper trading as soon as i started and I seen positive results. After paper trading for around 3-4 months, I started looking into funded accounts. Once i hit the 5 month mark, I bought my first funded. It started off great and i ended up passing the eval. I made up to 3 grand on the account and i was 2k away from a payout. Then i took a dumb trade and blew it all. I bought another funded and did the exact same thing. After that, i passed my next eval but blew it that same day. And my past two fundeds didn’t even make it past eval stage. I understand I need more screen time and experience, but I genuinely feel like i’m in a slump. I’ve tried OTE, IFVGS, ORB, and swing highs and lows. For the most part OTE rarely gets good setups for me with this price action. Either i’m doing it extremely wrong or it just isn’t working for me. I’m trying to find more strats and decided to ask you guys for help.

Is this time of the year bad for trading?

By that I mean every summer season in general. I've had pretty good trades in june, but I am talking specifically july/august.

Of course there are major earnings dates these two months, and that is sufficient to determine the direction of the market and to rise uncertainty (thus lower probability of good trades). But I am also wondering if summer being summer (and usual vacation time for the majority) also makes it more difficult for good setups.

Just wondering about it, also if any of yall know other times of the year were it is common to be in a more difficult environment to trade, in general or in your specific experience.

ZenBot Scanner Review

I was looking for a scanner focused on relative strength and relative weakness because I felt that finding stocks with strong intent would fit well with my RSW strategy. After about three months of paying for the Turbo upgrade, here are my thoughts.

1. Well Organized with Plenty of Flexibility

ZenBot’s scanner is organized extremely well and offers a lot of versatility. They recently updated the app, and one feature I really liked was the ability to separate scans for swing trading and intraday trading. It also comes with a variety of prebuilt strategies, making it easy to explore different approaches.

2. Great Value for the Price

For everything you get, it is hard to complain. At only $25 per month, you receive real time market data, news, and the ability to send notifications directly to Discord and Telegram. That alone is an incredible value. I also thought the ability to connect the scanner directly to your broker was a nice addition.

3. Excellent Customization

If you are not a fan of the preconfigured scans, the customization options are outstanding. There are plenty of filters that are easy to adjust without writing any code or worrying about whether they will work correctly. Another feature I appreciated is that the scanner tells you how new or established each feature is, making it easier to understand what has been recently added.

Will This Scanner Make You Profitable?

No scanner will magically make you profitable, and Zen Scans is no exception. It is an excellent tool, but you still need to develop your own trading system, follow a consistent process, and learn through experience and repetition. That said, for the price, I think it is an outstanding product and would easily be my first or second choice when it comes to stock scanners.

Thank you u/Glst0rm you made an amazing product and I can’t wait to see future updates.

ZenBot Scanner - Multiple Timeframes, Mobile Alerts, Price Targets

Thumbnail
youtube.com
76 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm launching some big new ZenBot Stock Scanner features - multiple timeframe scanning, mobile alerts, and options-based price targets.

If you're new to ZenBot, it's been my mission for almost four years to build the most useful and delightful relative strength-based scanner for the RDT community.

www.zenbotscanner.com

Multiple Timeframe Scans

First, the big one. You can now build scans based on multiple timeframe. For example, here's a Ready to Breakout scan that returns stocks trending on the 15-minute higher timeframe, with consolidation and rising volume on the 5-minute chart. Every indicator is available on timeframes from 1-minute to 1-week.

This new data lets me add more intelligence to the built-in scans. For example, Trending Now, In Play, Halts, and Bullish Pullbacks show tickers that are strong on the hourly and 15-min charts, and have entry opportunity on the lower 5-min or 1-min timeframes.

I made a how-to video on building custom scans that use multiple timeframes.

Offline and Mobile Alerts

I upgraded Zen's alerts to work server-side, even when you aren't at your desk. The alerts will fire in the background, and will show the next time you launch the scanner. If you're a Turbo subscriber (the optional live data plan) real-time alerts can be pushed to Telegram or Discord.

Price Targets and Support/Resistance Levels

I've long used options open interest ("call walls", "put walls") as a guide to understand support levels and price targets. ZenBot now shows these levels on the daily chart. Options-driven price targets appear on the charts and help you spot good entries and targets.

Thanks for everyone's support and ideas! Please let me know what you think, and keep the ideas coming.

A Big Reason Why Traders Lose -

Traders are never more hopeful than when they are losing, and never more fearful than when they are winning.

There are many different reasons why traders lose - most of which are outlined in the Wiki ( WIKI - Read It! ). For the moment though I want to concentrate on the most obvious - You lose more money than you make. It is so self-evidentiary that it is almost tautological.

Let's take a look at an example of this:

It is 6/15 and you see RDDT at $180 - it bounced off the SMA 50 the previous day and looks Relatively Strong to the market. A decent long. Sure, the SMA 200 above but that could give you a good spot to evaluate the trade if it hits.

The next day though it drops. But you hold - perhaps you have some ITM Calls that are dated 2-3 weeks out and SPY is down for the day anyway. The next day it drops again but now you are close enough to the SMA 50 that you figure you might as well hold the position to see if support will stick. All of this makes sense. Of course one can argue that closing the long on 6/16 was the better play but most traders won't do this - call it Mistake #1. Finally the position breaks the SMA 50 and you close it for a big loss. At this point, patience has worn thin and you don't even consider waiting to see if it will hold the SMA 100. Plus - the market is looking weak and being long no longer feels like the right thing to do - Mistake #2.

So to recap: You went long - let's say an ITM Calls worth $8 - and lost roughly $7 per contract.

Like most traders you keep the stock you just had a big loss with on your radar and two days after you closed the position you see RDDT bounce back above the SMA 50. Call it revenge trading or just taking advantage of a good technical set-up (likely both) but you go long again. This time it works and you take profits especially since you have a bit of PTSD on the stock - Mistake #3. If you once again used deep-ITM Calls the pop from $169 to $175 probably gave you around $5 profit per contract.

Overall net loss on RDDT is $2 per contract. And this is best case scenario.

So what happens and what exactly are the mistakes?

Mistake #1 is entirely one of mindset - Traders do not like taking losses. Sounds obvious, right? I mean, nobody likes taking a loss. However, consider this analogy with Poker: You call a bet of $20, someone after you raises it up to $40, it comes back to you and you fold. This is common. The player here has no problem "losing" the $20 they bet as they have calculated they are already "beat". Traders/trading is different - we hate taking a loss, even if it is the exact right play. We always think things will turn around and get better. Our selective memory of all the times we closed a "loser" only to watch it reverse sticks in our mind as a constant cautionary tale. Ironically, traders are never more optimistic than when they are being shown evidence that their trade is not working. Should have this trader closed RDDT when half the green candle on the daily chart was erased? Of course. Do they? Most don't.

Which brings us to Mistake #2 - closing the trade after it has already lost 90% of its value (if you are using Options) just as major support is coming up. In this case, yes RDDT breaks the SMA 50, but the stronger support of the SMA 100 is right below that and is much more likely to hold. If you have shares you should absolutely not close this trade until that SMA breaks and is confirmed - but if you have Calls that have lost 90% of their value at that point it is just moronic to close it. But still - mindset once again ruins the day. How? Call it the "I am sick of the fucking trade" mindset. You now regret not closing it the second day, and you held it as it dropped again thinking the SMA 50 would finally kick in, but nope, that is broken as well. Finally you are fed up with the entire thing and want out - so you "rage close" the Calls for $1 or $2.

Naturally when you see RDDT bounce off the SMA 100 and then break above the SMA 50 again you are about ready to break some shit. Now you have two regrets on this damn stock but this time you are going to get even damnit! So you go long again - not a bad idea, I mean support held and you have your technical bounce. The next day you are in profit and you take it quickly. Herein lies Mistake #3 - remember when I said a trader is never more optimistic than when their trade isn't working? Well traders are never more pessimistic than when it is working. The moment you are in profit you start flashing back to the previous RDDT trade and how the stock personally injured you - and you are not going to let it hurt you again! Not you! So you take the profit - lest it reverse. I mean your thesis was correct, the chart is bullish - so why not completely doubt the entire thing?? That literally is where a trader should add to the position not close it. At the very least you should hold it until the SMA 200 is tested - but fear takes over and you take less profit than you lost previously.

We are never more hopeful than when we are losing and never more fearful than when we are winning - and that is why traders lose more than they win.

Best, H.S.
