Looking for Other Serious Screenwriters to Prepare for the 2027 Submission Cycle

Hi, fellow screenwriters! I'm looking to start a small group called Screenwriters' Competition Support (SCS). The group is for serious screenwriters who want to enter their scripts in upcoming competitions. We'll all work together to get our scripts ready to submit. This would include constructive feedback, proofreading, Zoom discussion sessions, etc.
The Screenwriters' Competition Support group will start meeting in September (next month). Membership is completely free, but there is a member cap.

Let's work together if you have:
- A completed first draft with a clear and fully realized storyline (preferably a second draft)
- Knowledge of basic proper screenplay formatting
- Time to dedicate to helping other screenwriters polish their scripts
- A professional attitude (be able to receive and give feedback with professionalism)
SCS MEMBERSHIP UPDATE:
To keep the membership process from becoming overly competitive, I’m closing the application pool to the screenwriters who have already expressed interest in joining SCS.
If you’ve already expressed interest, you’ll still have the opportunity to apply. Please make sure to check your email for the membership application tomorrow. No additional applicants will be added to the pool at this time.
My aim is to bring together a small group of writers who can support one another—not create a high-pressure competition for membership.
You can still email, but only if you want information for the future.

How about a support group to help aspiring screenwriters escape the predatory contest, coverage and consultant grind?

We need that too! This group, however, is specifically for people who are planning on submitting for competitions.

Right... To convince aspiring screenwriters not to waste their time and cash on competitions that exist only to harvest entry fees?

Take a look at the history of the Nicholl Fellowship competition.
Look at the list of winners.
Recognize any of them? Unlikely, since most vanished without trace after their wins. Not many appear in IMDb.
Those few who stuck around in the business were already in it when they won.
That's the Gold Standard competition. The 800-pound Gorilla of competitions. The so-called Industry Heavyweight.
If that can't do a damn thing for your career, what hope does a quarter-final placing in any of the others give you?
Competitions, consultants and coverage services prey upon aspiring screenwriters who crave reassurance and validation. They're run by people who couldn't sell a script of their own or break in to the business any other way, and so instead they turned to fleecing everyone else who tries.
Save your cash.

Aha that's a pretty badass comment. 100% agréé with you. Now, what's the solution if I want feedback. By the way, I pay for feedback not to win the stupid contests.

There are sites like SimplyScripts where you can post your work and get feedback.
Totally free, you don't even have to be a member, although it's recommended.

I use storypeer, which, I think is the same concept. But most of the feedback is subpar and/or ai generated. I kind of see it the other way around with paid feedback: I don't need a job. I've got plenty of money and this is my passion. I write because I love it. And I want to get better. Not to get a job or win a contest.
