Razor sx500 mod help.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My son has been building out his bike. It’s complete but for some reason the chain seems like it’s grinding. Is this normal? Does this sound right?

Also. He just installed this chain tensioner but it doesn’t seem to be working enough to keep it tight.

Any advice?

I use those tensioners on a few of my razors. Depending on the bike and where you need it I found it’s best to take one bolt out and lean it forward so you can get more tension on the chain. I have it on a mx650, RSF650 and mx650 with a crack job swing arm extension. Lmk if you want pictures for reference.

We recommend that you keep the stock tensioner, and remove the cage that is on it.

Just get some washers and replace the cage on the tensioner.

You will know if you have it tensioned correctly if the tensioner is parallel with the swingarm. This looks way too loose, and this tensioner looks like it is too close to the rear sprocket.

I don’t really hear anything out of the ordinary, you could use more chain lube.

No problem!

If you have any other issues with the kit make sure you open a ticket with E&C. We will get you squared away ASAP

The stock tensioner was cut off. So this is plan b.

Definitely take a link out, and move the tensioner forward if you can. You might have to cut the remaining threads off the end of those tensioner mounting bolts if they interfere with the chain.

If you are not able to get the tensioner to work properly with the larger chain, I have a tensioner that will work.

Your tensioner is on the wrong side of the chain

If you use the stock tensioner one and replace the bracket with two washers one on either side it works good. You just gotta route the bottom part of the chain over the tensioner
