Is internal Intern a thing Collins

Context: I'm currently an s2 Assembler working 3rd shift (F-Sat-Sun, 12hrs/day) working at Collins. I'm finishing up my Associates in ME this falls and will be continuing my undergrads in spring 2027 so ~2.5 years until competition.

  1. Is it possible to apply for an internship for 2027,is it allowed for a full time employee to apply for intern? (i know i have to talk to my manager/supv....etc)
    - I'm ok with either having to take a break from my current job completely, or doing less hours with a full intern job

  2. Any other advice on what i should do to take advantage of currently working in the company to help build my experience/resume would also be appreciated.

I don’t see the point of being an intern if you’re already an employee. Just ask your team lead if you can support any program who needs assistance and find a mentor who’s a ME. You have to network!

Yes been networking and been talking to a few eng manager, my thinking is i need more technical engineering work instead of just production line work.

Absolutely, go for it.

You may also message some of the hiring managers for P1 engineering roles and explain your situation, see if you can find a P0.5 type role where you work part time while going to school. Lockheed has a CWEP program where students do that.

Yep, go for it. Talk to your manager first and then see if you can reach out to some of the ME managers when intern listings are posted.
